Position Highlights

Works under the general supervision of the Anatomic Pathology Manager.  Assists the Anatomic Pathology Manager in the management, supervision, and organization of the Histology Laboratory. Exercises wide scope of planning and organizing own work, as well as assigned/delegated tasks. 

Processes and prepares all tissue samples for interpretation by the pathologist according to established procedures.  Performs all routine and special staining, immunohistochemical assays and frozen sections in accordance with accepted practices and procedures, including other related duties assigned in the Histology Laboratory.  Demonstrates independent judgment, and able to troubleshoot histological processes to achieve an optimized sample for diagnostic purposes needed by the pathologist.

Responsibilities:

  • Receiving/Handling of Specimen.
  • Processing specimen.
  • Preparation of Microscopic slides.
  • Performs routine staining procedures.
  • Troubleshooting Routine, Special Stains, and Immunohistochemistry.
  • Maintaining Safety Protocols.

Credentials and Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree in Histology or Related Science required.

 

  • 3 years of experience as a Histotechnologist.

 

  • Florida state license as a Histotechnologist required.

 

Preferred:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Histology or Related Sciences.

 

  • 2 years experience at Moffitt Cancer Center as a Histotechnologist, and a combined total of 5 or more years experience working in an approved Histology laboratory.

 

  • ASCP preferred.
