Established in 1978, Cleveland Clinic's Sleep Disorders Center was among the first in the nation dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders in people of all ages. Accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Cleveland Clinic's Sleep Disorders Center performs more than 9,000 sleep studies each year, using each result to help our patients find answers in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders.

Our Mercy Hospital Sleep Center is looking to add a Registered Polysomnographic Technician to our dedicated team. In this role, your duties will include but are not limited to:
• Performing basic and advanced diagnostic sleep studies.
• Preparing patients and equipment for testing, as well as performing and documenting the testing.
• Interviewing the patient to determine sleep disorder issues and explaining the testing.
• Monitoring patients throughout the testing.
• Scoring, interpreting, and reporting sleep study results.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares patient and equipment for ordered testing.
  • Interviews patient to determine sleep disorder issues and to explain testing procedures.
  • Performs and documents testing.
  • Monitors patient throughout testing and intervenes as necessary to resolve patient needs or equipment issues.
  • Instructs non-registered and trainees. Scores, interprets and reports results of sleep studies. Prepares, calibrates, repairs and maintains equipment required for testing. Determines and reports needed repairs/replacements. Performs QA.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED.

Certifications:

  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Must be a Registered Polysomnography Technologist, under the BRPT guidelines.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including standing and walking for extended periods of time; must lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to assist with positioning and transporting patients.
  • Requires the ability to maneuver equipment and motor coordination to operate equipment.
  • Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
