Job Description
Senior Process Control Engineer
Major Duties:
To provide specialist process control system technical expertise in support to facilities, operations, engineers, and project teams in the CRD-M manufacturing operation.
Diagnose and rectify faults and vulnerabilities within the CRD-M manufacturing Control Systems.
Delivery of specialist engineering support for the process and infrastructure within the CRD-M, ensuring operational requirements are met with adherence to applicable Legislative and Corporate standards.
Support the ongoing capital development of the operation and process facility by assisting with defining and specifying requirements and then supporting the capital projects and engineering groups to deliver and implement the appropriate design solution.
Maintain the validated state of the automation systems in the API Manufacturing facilities following applicable Corporate standards and guidelines, and the principles of Good Automated Manufacturing Practice (GAMP). Automation systems include Emerson DeltaV, Cyber Secure Network and OSI PI Environment, and various package PLCs, Assists in specification development and purchase of equipment for plant improvement projects and process specific equipment needs. Supports initial installation and project requirements including commissioning, equipment start-up, and operational qualification.
Provides support to GWSS (Facilities support staff) to ensure an appropriate level of engineering knowledge specific to the safe operation of the facility is delivered to projects, maintenance, and support activities.
Provides input to safety and related studies on new or modified equipment and unit operations.
May assist in defining qualification requirements and standards for CRD-M new and modified installations, including writing, review and technical assessment of protocols.
Partners with operations, engineering, and EHS staff in support of the change control system to ensure the plant is compliant from an operational, documentation, EHS and Quality perspective. Review changes for technical accuracy and applicability to ensure the proposed change meets API’s operational requirements while adhering to Good Engineering Practice and EHS/Quality requirements as required.
Provide technical/tactical input to digital transformation programs e.g. PAT (Process Analytical Technology) / FAST / ICSS (Industrial Control System Security) / Batch Operations
Role Development:
The automation engineer will be expected to take on increased responsibility in directing technical teams, capital program management, and initiatives. Continued increase in responsibility and in job execution improvement can lead to recognition via promotion and additional related responsibilities.
Required education, skills and experience:
Significant experience in Industrial Control System Engineering; ideally with:
Chartered status
Certification/training with demonstrated experience specific to;
Electronic/control engineering
DeltaV Certification
SIL, ATEX, Hazardous area classification determination
Cyber Security
CompTIA Network+
CCNA
Trellix
Essential Experience
Design and Maintenance of a Defence in Depth Network Architecture
Proven Track record of Application selection and configuration to meet business needs
Proven Ability to deliver capital projects on time in budget
Demonstrable track record in automation engineering with both PLC and Distributed Control System experience
High Hazard environment Industrial experience, knowledge and experience of Change Management Processes
Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems design and maintenance
Control engineering experience relevant to plant improvement projects and process specific equipment needs. Experience will include project requirement definition, support of commissioning, equipment start-up, and operational qualification, along with life cycle support (troubleshooting and correction of mal-operation/failures)
Plant infrastructure/processing equipment and automation system commissioning, qualification and/or validation experience.
Experience with capital project management
Desirable Experience
Emerson DELTAV control system functional knowledge and formal training
GAMP5-validation of automated systems application to plant infrastructure and processing equipment automation qualification/validation
Experience in a fine chemical or chemical/ pharmaceutical synthesis industry with demonstrable knowledge of plant and process operation.
Solid understanding of quality (cGMP) and environmental, health and safety compliance requirements in a fine chemical or chemical/ pharmaceutical synthesis setting.
Essential Technical Ability
Proven track record of Distributed Control System implementation & operation
In-depth knowledge of Operational Technology Architecture
Cyber Security implementation in Operational Technology environment
Demonstrated ability to apply learning from prior experience to new situations and problems.
Ability to interpret plant data to understand equipment operation.
Recognized technical expertise used as resource within work team
Ability to troubleshoot plant and process problems
Proven track record of successfully leading the delivery of projects against pre-defined timelines.

Knowledge of batch processing operations.

All levels of staff in functions related to CRD-M operations and facility infrastructure: Process and Shift Supervisors/Team Leaders, Technicians, CRD chemists and engineers, EHS and QA Advisors, Global Operations Engineering, Project Management and Pfizer Digital.
Systems Impacted:
Operational Technology and Automation Assets with CRD-M, Process Control System Capital Improvement programs, Responsibility for all API control systems resilience, Cyber Security and compliance.
