Position Description
Assisting the Principal Investigators and their designees to conduct computational modeling of fluid flows, sediment transport, and morphodynamic processes in rivers as required by the funded projects to design and develop GIS-based interfaces for NCCHE System Models, GIS and remote sensing applications, visualization software, computational geometry modules, numerical models. Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required. This is a full-time position with salary, employee benefits and opportunities to pursue an equipment and facilities.



Job Responsibilities
Assisting the Principal Investigators and their designees to conduct computational modeling of fluid flows, sediment transport and morphodynamic processes in rivers as required by the funded projects, to design, develop GIS-based interfaces for CCHE System Models, GIS, and remote sensing applications, visualization software, computational geometry modules, and numerical models.



The incumbent will be required to work in the following areas:
• Two-dimensional computational fluid dynamics and open channel flow, or related disciplines.
• Innovative algorithm design and implementation in modern programming languages.
• A thorough understanding of parallel programming concepts and implementation details.
• Ability to manipulate, present and analyze geospatial data using GIS, GDAL, Google Earth, etc. and create new tools using these to satisfy the needs of numerical models.
• Ability to improve and maintain a web-based automated numerical modeling system.
• Develop, maintain, and manage scientific model software in a collaborative environment using a distributed version control system.
• Monitor project progress and provide technical management for funded projects.
• Write technical documentation for systems/programs.
• Expected to contribute in technical publications, assist with proposal submissions, and other associated duties.
• Research, design, and implement applicable technology and solutions related to project needs.
• Work independently to achieve project goals while closely coordinating within the development team.


Minimum Qualifications
BS or equivalent degree of Engineering Science, Computer Science and/or Geology, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and two (2) years of experience related to the above-described duties. OR MS or equivalent degree of Engineering Science, Computer Science and/or Geology, Civil
Engineering, Mechanical Engineering that is commensurate with experience.

1. A portion or all of the salary for this position is paid with external funds not covered by the University’s general budget. As such, employment is dependent upon continuation of the external funds.
