Job Description

Summary

The Neuroscience department is seeking a Laboratory Manager to participate in research of the Groves lab into the development of the inner ear and treatments for hearing loss. The successful candidate will coordinate the management and daily running of the lab and assist and supervise a team of 10-12 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. They will perform research work that requires planning, completing, and supervising limited research projects.

Job Duties

  • Work with a research team of 10-12 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to ensure the smooth running of the research lab.
  • Work with BCM Purchasing to order and maintain all stocks of laboratory supplies and work with the administrators in the Neuroscience department to allocate purchases and credit card expenses to the appropriate accounts.
  • Ensure functioning and maintenance/service of all lab equipment and lab space and will supervise lab personnel to assist in these tasks.
  • Coordinate onboarding of new personnel, demonstrate standard operating procedures, supervise training and maintain a log of training of new laboratory personnel.
  • Responsible for biosafety, environmental safety, IACUC compliance and animal training in the lab.
  • Design and perform molecular biology and cell biology experiments as well as the breeding, of genetically modified mice and analysis of their tissue using molecular and cell biology techniques.
  • Document and interpret the results of experiments and report to the lab head.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree ina Basic Science orrelated field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience,with prior supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ordering laboratory supplies
  • Experience working with and breeding mice, and basic knowledge of genetically modified mice
  • Experience of molecular biology techniques and the equipment used in a molecular biology lab
  • Analytical thinking and problem solving
  • Ability to design and execute experiments individually and as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills
