Harvard Medical School Information Systems seeks a seasoned Senior Business Systems Analyst professional skilled in leading requirements elicitation, journey mapping, business process redesign, and user-centered design.

The Information Systems team is responsible for the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) from project inception through implementation through ongoing support of the Harvard Medical School systems that support core functions related (but not limited to) Human Resources, Finance, Research Administration, Facilities Management, and Faculty and Student Affairs. The position will report to the Product Owner of Human Capital Management, supporting human resources and the human capital management track, related systems, and databases.

The ideal candidate will be energized by solving problems in new and innovative ways. You are comfortable working in an ever-changing environment and can engage with stakeholders to identify minimal viable product for frequent delivery of new technology solutions.

  • Work at an expert level within a team on most phases of service analysis and consider the business implications of technology applications to the current and future business environment.
  • Research, design, document, implement, configure, and validate solutions to business needs.
  • Solve large, highly complex and multi-faceted technical problems. Will manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technology strategies, systems requirements and scoping of IT projects.
  • Define systems requirements, conduct gap analysis, and identify feasible alternative solutions that meet defined business objectives.
  • Responsible for business transition management to ensure that systems are understood and adopted by users.
  • Document and refine current state and future state system processes, design, and review prototypes to meet key gaps and processes and build support from technology stakeholders in solutions.
  • Define Agile user stories that meet business requirements and application features, data conversion, systems integration, security, or customizations.
  • Negotiate user story prioritization, sprint content and longer-term plans collaboratively with the stakeholders and IT team to ensure effective delivery of IT projects.
  • Advise unit/school to consider business implications of technology applications and the impact on current and future business environment. Recommend process, practice, or policy changes based on input from stakeholders, comprehension of the subject area, and awareness of current or new system’s potential capabilities.
  • Develop training materials and work with change agents and trainers on training approach and delivery.
  • Contribute to development of long-term strategy, plans, and policies for a unit/school, assess technology investment options as they relate to budget planning and financial investments.
  •  Partners with HUIT, School officials, and internal IT as an application owner and/or project lead
  • Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies, and Code of Conduct
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Knowledge of information technology applications, processes, software, and equipment
  • Highly specialized knowledge of a specific technology
  • Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a
  • trusted advisor.
  • Experience with Jira or other project management tools
  • Experience with Visio, LucidChart, or other business analysis tools
  • Experience with Excel or other data analysis tools
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to effectively translate technical topics into business
  • language
  • Negotiation skills, ability to drive consensus
  • Ability to navigate conflicting priorities, ability to influence
Additional Information
This position is based in Boston, but the work may be done primarily remote. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process. *Note: Harvard employees working in California must be exempt.
