The Department of Health and Exercise Science at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for a Renewable Term Lecturer position, in Health Promotion. This position is non-tenure track with an emphasis on undergraduate teaching and mentoring, but does provide an opportunity for promotion. The position will have a 4:4 teaching load focused primarily on undergraduate courses related to health promotion. The appointment will begin in Fall 2024.

Responsibilities

1.      Teach undergraduate and potentially graduate courses in Health Promotion. The expected teaching load of this position will be 4 courses per semester (Fall/Spring). While not required, availability to instruct courses during the summer is preferred.

2.      Instruct undergraduate courses Lifestyle Intervention (Health Behavior Theory), Health Promotion Program Planning, Community Health, Chronic Disease, and potentially others.

3.      Potentially supervise student internship placements.

4.      Perform service to the profession, university, college, and department (e.g., serving on undergraduate committee or the HESSA (HES student association) faculty mentor).

The Department of Health and Exercise Science is an interdisciplinary program and one of the largest in the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences. The program focuses on Health Promotion and Exercise Physiology and integrates the biological, physiological, medical, and behavioral sciences as they relate to human health and physiological responses to exercise. It is nationally ranked by the National Academy of Kinesiology.

Minimum Qualifications:

1.      Ph.D. or ABD in Health Promotion/Public Health/Health Education/Community Health or a related Social Science. 

2.      ABD applicants must receive their Ph.D. prior to the start date.

3.      One or more years of experience with academic instruction or training public health professionals OR 5 years of experience in applied public/community health practice.

4.      Ability to teach and develop undergraduate courses related to Health Promotion.

Preferred Qualifications:

1.      Ph.D. in Health Promotion/Public Health/Health Education/Community Health or a related Social Science.

2.      Previous experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in Health Promotion

3.      Previous experience using innovative teaching pedagogy.
