Job Description

Summary

Full-time research coordinator position in the Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH)/Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) Psychology Section.  The Research Coordinator II will be involved with research projects funded by the National Cancer Institute examining neurocognitive outcomes following radiation therapy for the treatment of pediatric brain tumors.  The Research Coordinator II will coordinate day to day activities of clinical research protocols and will ensure accurate data collection, documentation, and management.  

 

The focus of this research is on neurocognitive outcomes of treatment for pediatric brain tumors.  The study population includes children and adults who have received or are currently receiving treatment for a pediatric brain tumor. 
The successful candidate will work with the principal investigator to conduct clinical research studies and will coordinate several research projects.  

Job Duties

Study implementation: 20%

  • Manages all aspects of study implementation, including scheduling study visits, obtaining informed consent, administering participant incentives, and Determines eligibility and recruits patients for research participation.


Testing procedures: 50%

  • Conducts testing procedures required by study protocols, which includes administering neuropsychological tests to patients, scoring neuropsychological tests, reporting test scores to the supervising psychologist, and assisting in interpreting the results.


Training: 5%

  • Completes all required training modules related to the Responsible Conduct of Research (e.g., CITI Program training). Assists with training and overseeing activities of new staff and trainees.

 

Patient data and documentation management: 20%

  • Manage patient research files and develops and maintains databases in Microsoft Excel and statistical software packages (i.e., SPSS). Prepares documentation necessary to obtain initial and continued approval for specific research protocols.

 

 Abstracts: 5%

  • Conducts medical chart abstractions as part of the study.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s-level training in psychological/cognitive testing. 
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Training in and experience with neurocognitive testing is preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Previous experience interacting with children and families in a medical setting is preferred.
  • Must be highly organized and able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Prior experience with Microsoft Excel is preferred.
  • Ability to understand and implement patient studies/protocols is required.
  • Respectful, patient-centered interactions with participants, medical providers, and staff are expected at all times.
