College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.

Job Summary

The position will complete and oversee a variety of assignments at the discretion of the Chief of Social Work. This position will complete psychosocial assessments, prepare treatment plans, document individual progress through session interviews with individual and family members, and review of individual's records. This position will act as an advocate for the individual by coordinating needed services, act as a liaison for the individual, present cases in court-settings-to include Court testimony (Civil and Outpatient commitments), discharge planning, and case management. This position will coordinate with staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of individual treatment plans.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

Screens, develops, monitors, and coordinates client placement plans. Ensures that services and placement plans meet the client's needs and expectations. Directs the coordination of activities in such a way as to minimize disruptions of the delivery of care or placement. Maintains client records as well as prepares reports and correspondence related to the work.

Serves as key advisor to the Chief of Social Work. Works with the Chief to develop strategies and objectives to accomplish the goals of the client as well as the facility. Participates as a member of the care team in order to coordinate and integrate with the community support programs. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures pertaining to the care and placement of the client. Serves as liaison for clinical departments and between the hospital and community support programs.

Establishes appropriate objectives and priorities for patients and the department in support of overall hospital goals.

Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature and attending related seminars and conferences. Applies pertinent new knowledge to performance of other job responsibilities.

Creates and contributes to a high performance environment characterized by positive leadership and strong teamwork.

Contributes to risk assessment by considering cost, benefit, and impact of placement options. Understands and abides by regulatory policies and procedures such as those outlined by The Joint Commission and HIPAA.

Provide court testimony as requested. Conduct case presentations. Participate on the Forensic Review Committee, the Hospital Review Committee, and the Forensic Conference.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief of Social Work

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in social work or counseling from an accredited graduate school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CS WE) w/licensure eligibility and two years of related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in mental health, substance abuse and developmental disability, and knowledge of criminal justice system or related field

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Knowledge of diagnostic impressions or criteria and client advocacy systems.

SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Skilled in a variety of therapeutic models and interventions directly related to area of assignment.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to perform crisis intervention techniques as well as individual and group therapy techniques.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Pay Grade: 16

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
