Job Description

Under direct supervision, performs clinical and certain administrative duties.  Clinical duties include taking and recording vital signs, collecting and preparing lab specimens (phlebotomy), and providing occupational health testing including- vision testing, pulmonary function testing, audiometry testing, electrocardiograms, and drug and alcohol testing.  Duties include putting patients in rooms and preparing for clinicians, communicating with and supporting clinicians.   Providing basic triage with the use of a provided questionnaire for the patient, providing patient information/instruction, patient history interviews, assisting with a medical examination, setting up and cleaning rooms, and administering immunizations.

Provide assistance and administrative support to include data entry (enter test results and notes).  Navigate and enter data into an electronic health record system.  Maintaining and ordering supplies for the clinic.  Scheduling and answering phones and directing patient traffic within the clinic. This position description documents the general nature and level of work but is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all activities, duties and responsibilities required of job incumbent. This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis.

  • Prepares patient for examination.
  • Obtains vital signs and chief complaint.
  • Appropriately document information obtained.
  • Draws blood and prepares laboratory and CLIA waived diagnostic testing.
  • Answers, screens, and triages telephone calls. Takes accurate messages and distributes them to the appropriate personnel within the guidelines of the practice.
  • Schedules tests and referral appointments for patients.
  • Administers oral and injectable medication.
  • Responsible for inventories, orders, and restocks clinic
  • Maintains all logs and required checks (i.e., refrigerator temps, medications, calibration of clinical testing equipment etc.)
  • Maintains and cleans equipment and environment as required
  • Ability to provide clerical services and clinical services as required to maintain an effective practice flow.
  • Willingness to take additional courses for certification in Audiometry and Pulmonary Function Testing.

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program, including an externship AND a minimum of 1 year of medical assistant experience in a clinical capacity may be considered. Completion of an Accredited program with Certification/Registration through AAMA or AMT is required.
  • Necessary visual and auditory acuity required to monitor patient's condition and operate department equipment.
  • Demonstrates a positive team attitude and has interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, employees, providers, and co-workers.
  • Ability to work in an EMR environment.

Preferred skills

  • History of work in an Occupational Medical Clinic a plus.
