Job Description
Job OverviewResponsible for providing support for telecommunications and network devices and related equipment, circuits and systems which typically are integrated with or interconnected to larger systems. Maintain flexibility in responding to changes in schedules and job priorities.
Essential Functions
Install, repair, splice, terminate, and test various forms of telecommunications cabling (e.g. copper, fiber, coax, etc.) to ensure proper impedance matching and connections between various pieces of electronic equipment by utilizing industry standard troubleshooting skills.
Install and maintain telecommunications equipment including but not limited to routers, switches, VOIP, phones, and Wireless Access Points.
Schedule and/or coordinate telecommunications services outages (e.g. repairs, installations, removal of equipment, preventative maintenance, etc.); participate in system enhancement and equipment evaluation.
Participate in an on-call rotation to perform and/or facilitate emergency repairs, including working after-hours sporting/special events to ensure network continuity and facilitate emergency repairs.
Communicate with management and customers to provide update on daily orders and trouble tickets.
Document up-to-date records for cable detail, communications equipment and services and adhere to all required project safety requirements as set forth by the university and OSHA.
Will travel throughout the university’s campuses and to other remote facilities as necessary.

Required Education
High School Diploma or GED.
Required Trainings/Certifications
Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable record
BICSI Installer II Certification
Two (2) years of experience in structured cabling installation, fiber optic installation, repairs, troubleshooting & testing can be used in lieu of the certification requirement.
Required Experience
No work experience required if BICSI Installer II certified.

Additional Qualifications Considered
Experience with the installation of network equipment such as network switches, VOIP phones, and Wireless Access Points.
POTS lines and identifications of different types of voice and data circuits.
Knowledge of all industry standards (NEC, TIA/EIA, BICSI).
BICSI installer.
