What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a R&D S&E, Mechanical Engineer to assume the Desiccant Lead role for the W80-4 and W87-1 Product Realization Teams (PRT). The candidate will work with a wide variety of technical staff to include mechanical engineers, designers, analysts, materials scientists, chemists, test personnel as well as the PRT Lead as you complete engineering activities that span the full product development cycle within the Nuclear Deterrence (ND) Product Realization Framework. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Develop designs to a production-ready state through iterative design-build-test cycles and collaboration with the production agency + Support qualification test and documentation efforts for the desiccant design + Prepare for and present to diverse audiences at technical design reviews and programmatic meetings + Development and release product realization documentation to include: specification documents, drawings, qualification plans, surveillance plans, etc.. + Resolve producibility and inspectability issues associated with product by working with the production agency + Partner with engineers at Sandia in Systems and across the complex to ensure the success of the project + Act as interface between design and production agencies + Assist in integration activities with various teams and PRTs Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Qualifications We Require: + Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience + Ability to travel up to 25% + Ability to obtain a Q-Clearance and Sigma 15 access Qualifications We Desire: + MS in mechanical/aeronautical engineering + Experience designing mechanical hardware + Experience with computer aided design tools (Creo/ProE, SolidWorks etc.) + Experience getting hardware manufactured and working through production challenges + Experience building and assembling hardware you designed + 3-5 years relevant work experience + Experience creating, interpreting, and reviewing drawings, including GD&T + Environmental testing experience (writing test plans, data acquisition, executing tests) + Familiarity with computational simulation and modeling tools + Excellent verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings About Our Team: The Environmental Controls and Sensors Department is a new department being established to provide a capabilities-based group of technical staff with the scope to create, control, verify, and maintain the desired atmosphere within a system by limiting ingress of water, oxygen, and EMR energy or by measuring the environments experienced by the system. This department is part of the Nuclear Deterrence Stockpile Systems and Component Engineering Center, which is responsible for assuring the safety, reliability, and security of U.S. nuclear weapons. The department is comprised of a group of dedicated and motivated engineers and technologists that focus on product engineering design, development, and qualification of product in support of weapon stockpile and modernization systems.
