Job Description

The Mathematics and Computer Science division at Argonne National Laboratory seeks well-prepared candidates for a postdoctoral position in the study of quantum networks.

In this role you will develop, analyze, and implement numerical algorithms for entanglement purification and distillation protocols, error-correction and error-detection algorithms, and entanglement quantification for different quantum network architectures. You also work on quantum variational algorithms to be run on near-term quantum devices.

Research will be performed in close collaboration with leading scientists in applied mathematics and computer science. Researchers will have access to cutting-edge extreme-scale computing facilities. Argonne provides a collaborative, open-science environment where scientists from various disciplines are engaged in solving challenging fundamental and practical problems. Position Requirements

  • A recent or soon-to-be completed PhD (typically within the last 0-3 years) in applied mathematics, physics, computer science, industrial engineering, or related field.
  • Interest in contributing to numerical software development.
  • Expertise in one of: numerical optimization, entanglement in multi-partite quantum systems, quantum error correction/detection, and the theory of open-quantum systems.
  • Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
