Job Description

Summary

A Research Assistant position is available in Andrea Ballabio's laboratory for a diligent, motivated, and reliable individual. The ideal candidate will have experience in cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques and be familiar with or willing to learn mouse husbandry and handling, in-vivo experimental procedures, and mouse tissue processing and handling. Under the direction of the PI and other senior laboratory personnel, the candidate is expected to design, conduct, and analyze molecular, cellular, and in-vivo experiments and to assist with the maintenance of cell and tissue cultures, mouse colonies, and inventory of laboratory supplies. The candidate will co-ordinate their work with other laboratory personnel and collaborate as needed with other department members. The work will involve both in-vivo and ex-vivo mouse tissue.
 

Job Duties

  • Plans, conducts, and analyzes experiments involving molecular and cellular biology under guidance of the PI or other senior research personnel.
  • Maintains cell and tissue cultures.
  • Maintains mouse colonies to generate cohorts for in-vivo experiments.
  • Performs in-vivo genetic manipulations and in-vivo experimental procedures.
  • Handles and processes rodent tissue.
  • Assists in the maintenance of laboratory instruments and the laboratory workspace.
  • Assists in maintaining the laboratory's inventory of required reagents, PPE, and other supplies.
  • Generates plasmids and viral vectors for use in cell culture experiments at direction of senior research personnel.
  • Communicates and presents the results of experiments to the PI and other senior research personnel.
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in physiology, genetics, pharmacology, or neuroscience
  • Familiarity with common molecular biology techniques
