The successful candidate:
*$5000 sign-on bonus*
Hours: Mon - Fri 5:00am - 1:30pm with some rotational on-call and weekends
*Flexibility in hours is critical in this role.
The Sous Chef, in partnership with department leadership and/or the Executive Chef, provides professional guidance and direction to kitchen Stakeholders responsible for producing dietary support for the organization and those under its specialized care. This role is responsible for a variety of tasks including production of cafe recipes and meals, assisting in menu development, inventory, and cost control, assisting with purchasing, administrative duties, and other tasks as assigned by leadership.
A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected while maintaining compliance with standard practices, regulatory agency requirements, and State and local requirements to ensure a safe, secure, and healthy work environment. Overtime maybe required during peak times, high census, and special functions.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Culinary certificate/ degree from a culinary institute, or equivalent level of experience required
Experience:
Minimum 3 years’ experience as an apprentice Cook to a reputable chef or minimum of 5 years’ experience in food preparation
Previous Sous Chef (leadership) experience preferred
License/ Certification/ Permit:
Currently dated Food Handler’s Permit Manager ServeSafe Preferred.
Certification from an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) – Conference for Food Protection (CFP) Food Protection Manager accredited program or obtained within 30 days of hire. (Required in IL) ServeSafe preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of food and recipe preparation and basic food training techniques
Ability to read recipes and production records and to maintain production records
Knowledge of HACCP-Food Borne Illness prevention
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong leadership ability and customer services skills
Proficient in computer use including Microsoft Office Products
Strong attention to detail and organizational and time management skills
Project management, coaching, problem-solving, and process improvement skills
Ability to be flexible, adapting to changing conditions in a fast-paced environment

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $17.19 - $26.55 / hour
