    About the Pfizer Process Development Centre and the Role

    The Pfizer global Process Development Centre (PDC) has multiple exciting new opportunities for experienced and skilled Analytical Scientists to join our innovative R&D team based in Cork, Ireland. These new roles are across all levels of the PDC analytical team (Research Analysts, Senior Research Analysts and Principal Analytical Scientists) and successful candidates will support the development and implementation of new API processes (both batch and continuous) and technology in Pfizer sites across the globe. The PDC team plays a key role in accelerating supply and delivering innovation that supports the Pfizer purpose of breakthroughs that change patients’ lives

    The PDC is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment which the analytical team utilize to develop new methods supporting characterisation, investigation, process development and QC release. The successful candidates will have experience across multiple areas of analytics (Method Development/Validation/Transfer, Chromatography, PAT, MS, SFC, Data analytics,) and will utilise these skills in supporting the development and commercialisation of new API processes and technology

    About the position

    Reporting to the PDC Senior Analytical Development Manager, the successful candidate’s key responsibilities, commensurate with the position are:

    • Develop, evaluate & verify analytical methods across a range of techniques (including HPLC, UPLC, GC, SFC, MS, KF and ROI) as required to support projects.

    • Provide analytical testing across a range of techniques (including HPLC, UPLC, GC, SFC, MS, KF and ROI) to support chemical process development, pilot plant demonstrations and full-scale qualification batches as part of the team.

    • Apply highly specialised analytical skills to support chemical process development, pilot plant demonstrations and full-scale qualification batches as part of the PDC team.

    • Contribute a range of highly innovative analytical ideas to support global process development projects.

    • Demonstrate problem solving delivering process and analytical understanding.

    • Provide analytical support in technical transfer of analytical methods to external sites both within the Pfizer network and to third parties.

    • Co-ordinate and/or contribute to analytical validation and AMTE activities as required by project demands.

    • Contribute and/or lead troubleshooting and investigation of analytical issues with existing commercial API processes to support project teams, API sites (internal and external) and global technical groups. This may include impurity identification and structural elucidation of unknown components using advanced analytical techniques such as LCMS (QTOF and Triple Quadrupole).

    • Investigate new technologies and analytical approaches to bring added value to PGS.

    • Complete reports, memos and eLN experiments to a high standard and meeting required deadlines.

    • Contribute to the PDC analytical team program of continuous improvement.

    • Ensure the ongoing safe and efficient operation of PDC facilities.

    Qualifications & Experience:

     Education and Experience

    • For Research Analyst, a PhD in analytical chemistry ideally combined with 0+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, ideally within an analytical development role; or a BSc/MSc in a degree with significant analytical focus and ideally up to 2+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, ideally within an analytical development role. Experience in project management, complex analytical investigation and method development is desired for this role.

    • For Senior Research Analyst, a PhD in analytical chemistry ideally combined with 3+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, ideally within an analytical development role; or a BSc/MSc in a degree with significant analytical focus plus 7 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, ideally within an analytical development role. Experience in project management, complex analytical investigation and method development is essential for this role.

    • For Principal Analytical Scientist, a PhD in analytical chemistry ideally combined with 10+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, within an analytical development role; or a BSc/MSc in a degree with significant analytical focus plus 10+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, within an analytical development role. Experience in project management is essential, complex analytical investigation, method development, control strategy and scientific leadership is essential for this role.

    Role competencies

    • Extensive knowledge and experience of analytical principles and procedures.

    • Practical experience in a range of analytical techniques including but not limited to HPLC, UPLC, GC, SFC, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, KF.

    • A strong background in impurity isolation and identification using LC-MS to support the development and troubleshooting of chemical processes is desirable.

    • Experience in HPLC/UPLC method development. GC method development experience is desirable.

    • Experience in pGTI method development and quantification is desirable.

    • Experience of method validation and method transfers, including the generation and review of AMTE and validation protocols and reports is desirable.

    • A proven ability to plan and work independently. The candidate must be able to work under consultative direction, toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives for a project.  Project management experience a plus here. 

    • The candidate should have the ability to determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results.  Develops advanced ideas and guides their development into a final product. 

    • Demonstrated application of 6-sigma tools and practices and a focus on continuous improvement for work processes.

    • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, team driven environment.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
