Job Description
Job SummaryA Research Technician position is immediately available in the laboratory of Xuewei Wang in the Department of Molecular Medicine and Neuroscience Institute at University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa. The lab uses mouse genetics, mammalian cell culture, single-cell and bulk multiomics sequencing, advanced microscopy, etc. to study the mechanisms of axon regeneration and neuroprotection using neural injury and neurodegenerative disease models. Prior experience with mouse colony breeding and management, rodent surgery, molecular biology experiments, cell culture, histology, or fluorescence microscopy is preferred.
Nature of Work
The Research Technician will perform technical laboratory duties and related data analysis in support of ongoing research projects. The position may also involve learning sophisticated techniques and skillsets as required for the projects and contributing to maintaining equipment and training new lab members. Ancillary responsibilities may include assisting with ordering, inventory management, and general organization of the laboratory space. A successful candidate is expected to work well in a collegial environment and interact regularly with other lab members.
Examples of Duties

Performs routine techniques, such as primary cell culture, PCR, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry, RNAScope in situ hybridization, fluorescence microscopy, etc. Collects and analyzes data.
Maintains mouse colony and coordinates genotyping.
Performs or assists with mouse surgery. Monitors and cares post-operative mice.
Assists with training new lab members.
Assists with ordering and equipment maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):
Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and three years of laboratory or research experience. College coursework in a natural or physical science may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in biological sciences.
Six months or more of wet-lab research experience.
Experience with mouse colony breeding and management, rodent surgery, molecular biology experiments, cell culture, histology, or fluorescence microscopy.
