Our laboratory seeks to understand why sleep is essential for survival. We use a variety of in vivo and in vitro approaches including fly and mouse genetics, molecular, biochemical and imaging techniques. We are looking for a Research Assistant to assist with several tasks, including but not limited to basic molecular genetics, cell biology (PCR, histology, etc.), preparing solutions, and laboratory setup maintenance. Additional duties of the RA I will include mouse colony maintenance, fly stock maintenance, microscopy and carrying out assays to functionally assess sleep behavior of genetically manipulated flies. This person will spend 90% of his/her time working on a scientific project, and 10% of the time on lab maintenance. The person will get a great training in research, both scientific thinking and experimental designs and skills. The person we are looking for should be well organized, motivated, and a responsible team member.Basic Qualifications
College background preferably in life sciences or related discipline. One year related work experience (relevant course work may count towards experience).Additional Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's Degree preferred. The successful candidate will possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills; good verbal and written communication; proficiency with computer technologies and software; the ability to take direction.Additional Information
This is a 6-month term position with the possibility of renewal based on available funding and research outcomes.Offer contingent upon successful completion of a pre-placement medical evaluation.
