Principal Investigator, Dr. Moshe Arditi, is seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to join the Department of Pediatrics!

The Cedars-Sinai Infectious and Immunological Diseases Research Center (IIDRC) Department of Biomedical Sciences and the Pediatrics Department (Arditi Lab) are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist, for NIH-funded cardiovascular immunobiology and mitochondrial biology research.

The Arditi Laboratory, led by Moshe Arditi, MD, director of the Infectious and Immunological Diseases Research Center (IIDRC), investigates innate and adaptive immunity in cardiovascular inflammation and mitochondrial biology and gender differences. The Arditi Laboratory particularly investigates the immunobiology of the cardiovascular lesions in the Kawasaki Disease vasculitis mouse model as well as abdominal aorta aneurysm and atherosclerosis mouse models, focusing in mitochondrial biology, metabolism, NLRP3 inflammasome activation and IL-1beta production.

This is an NIH funded postdoctoral position to investigate the immunobiology of cardiovascular inflammation, including the two experimental murine models of inflammation, Kawasaki Disease vasculitis and myocarditis mouse model, and murine models of atherosclerosis. Role of innate and adaptive immunity, discovery of novel therapeutics, role of mitochondrial function and metabolism, and sex differences in these experimental models are the focus of the laboratory.

Working independently but in close cooperation and consultation with the Principal Investigator(s) and other Research Scientists, the Postdoctoral Scientist performs routine and complex cellular, molecular biology experiments, as well as conducts and learns procedures for experimental murine models of cardiovascular immunobiology throughout the training period. Will analyze, interpret and present research data. Not responsible for generating grant funds.

What are the primary duties & responsibilities?

  • Assists in preparation of grant proposals and is encouraged to apply for fellowship grants.
  • Participates in manuscript preparation, publications and presentations as author or co-author ad abstract preparations.
  • Designs and performs experiments. Keeps appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyzes the results with the Principal Investigator.
  • Develops, adapts, and implements new research techniques and protocols.
  • Analyzes, interprets, summarizes and compiles data.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Doctorate (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in Immunology, Immunobiology, molecular biology or areas directly related to field of research specialization is required.

Experience & Skills:

  • One (1) year of experience acquired thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment is required.
  • Works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within an area of specialization.
  • Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.
  • Strong background and experience in mitochondrial biology, metabolism, cellular and molecular Biology and or Immunology, as well as experience with experimental murine models of cardiovascular diseases is preferred.
  • Experience in microscopic imaging, mouse dissection, handling mice, including genotyping and breeding is strongly preferred.
