Summary
Information and Technology Services (ITS) has an immediate opening for an experienced Network Planning Manager to manage the technical professionals who design and engineer the data networks at U-M. The Network Planning Manager provides direction and resource management for a team of technical architects and engineers with growing scope and responsibility over infrastructure vital to the core educational and research mission of the University while also supporting the critical administrative applications for University business. You will need skills in: project resource allocation, managing the time/skills of employees whose expertise is in demand, leading technical staff, expertise with complex, diverse and business-critical voice and data IP networks, ability to deal with changing technologies and implementations. You will work in a hybrid environment, both onsite in Ann Arbor and remotely. You will report to the Information Technology Services Executive Director, Infrastructure.

Responsibilities*
Operational Management:

Provide leadership for a team responsible for a team of technical architects and engineers
Lead efforts to develop planning to ensure network capacity/functionality meets network requirements.
Collaborate and consult with team members and outside vendors to ensure quality of current and new services are provided, open issues are addressed, procedures followed, and training developed. Prepare budgets, approve expenditures, and submit proposals. Collaborate with city and county officials to help procure right of way permits and joint use of facilities.
Coordinate efforts with the State of Michigan universities and their Internet Service provider(s) (ISP) to offer other Michigan higher educational institutions the ability to obtain functional services and favorably priced use of external network infrastructure.
Recruit and select people from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experience. Responsible for the performance management activities. Develop salary planning and incentive proposals. Assist employees with career development planning, identify and approve training, and incorporate development plans for staff in a daily work environment.
Strategic Planning:

Define and provide an overall road map and strategy for the U-M campus to ensure network capacity/functionality meets network requirements.
Collaborate across the organizations within Information Technology Services (ITS) and University of Michigan (UM) to plan efforts to analyze our network environment and develop strategies to meet future requirements.
Determine and identify opportunities, threats, strengths and weaknesses of the network infrastructure.
Collaborate with department technical leads and communication staff to target potential products for acquisition or integration into the ITS service portfolio. Participate in commissioning and decommissioning of ITS services and products.
