The Georgia Prevention Institute (GPI) of the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University (AU) is seeking applicants for a Research Scientist to join within the new Transdisciplinary Research Initiative in Inflammaging and Brain Aging (TRIBA) with regard to human research, population health sciences and clinical trials. GPI, is currently holding >$15 million extramural funding, has over a thirty-year history of interdisciplinary research programs in areas including obesity, cardiovascular diseases, behavioral medicine, stress and mental health, cancer, diabetes, fitness, health disparities, nutrition, kidney diseases, lung diseases, and substance abuse in both children and adults. GPI Faculty follow several longitudinal population cohorts from childhood, adolescence to adulthood. The research expertise of qualified applicants may be within or complementary to the existent research expertise that includes obesity, behavioral sciences, cognitive function, cardio-oncology, nutrition, microbiome, brain imaging, muscle and skeletal function, substance abuse and addiction, mobile technology and telemedicine as well as community-based research and implementation sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and develop an innovative and independent research program that will attract and maintain extramural funding from government agencies (e.g., the National Institute of Health), private foundations, and industry. This position is not considered to be on tenure track.
Responsibilities
- Establish and develop an innovative and independent research program that will attract and maintain extramural funding from government agencies (e.g., the National Institute of Health), private foundations, and industry.
- Develops, implements, and reviews general research policies/procedures as necessary to assure the conduct of high-quality translational research.
- Manages grants and projects on which he/she serves as Principal Investigator, including overseeing and directly supervising research personnel as needed.
- Under minimal administrative direction, develops and directs quantitative and/or qualitative research initiatives including observational studies, clinical trials, community-based studies, and/or systematic reviews, using both secondary data and prospective data collection approaches.
- Designs and performs complex research methods as appropriate for specific research endeavors.
- Develop, refine, and coordinating an institution-wide research agenda, acting as a liaison between internal and external groups engaged in research, contributing to program evaluation efforts, supporting grant research efforts, and communicating research findings in a relatable and understandable manner.
- Responsible for collaborating with Principal Investigators (PI) and working independently within the scientific framework of the PI's laboratory.
- Participate in conferences and journal club meetings.
Required Qualifications
All Medical College of Georgia faculty should be Board Eligible/Board Certified and have a MD, PhD, or equivalent appropriate degree commensurate with role.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree in biomedical related disciplines from an accredited college or university; Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills; Demonstrated human research experience (publications in peer-reviewed journals, and extramural funding).
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
