Job Description

The Science and Technology Partnerships and Outreach (S&TPO) organization is one of six directorates at Argonne, and S&TPO’s mission is to catalyze partnerships, capture new opportunities, and connect our research to the innovation ecosystem to ensure U.S competitiveness, economic prosperity, and national security.
The Systems Manager role reports to S&TPO’s Director of Commercialization and is focused on ensuring effectiveness of 2-3 key business systems for the Sponsored Research Office (SRO) and the Innovation and Commercialization Managers (ICMs). The extent of an applicant’s relevant experience will determine whether they qualify for the Coordinator or Manager level.
Specific Responsibilities
Support existing IP and contracts administration systems for Argonne’s Innovation, Commercialization, Sponsored Research, and Contract Admin functions
Engage regularly with the stakeholders to review issues, update progress toward resolution, explore and undertake system optimization improvements
Maintain relationship with key vendors to ensure prompt service and issue resolution
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and automation, obtain buy-in and budgets
Support improvements and vendors performance for time, scope, and budget
Work with Argonne’s Business Information Systems (BIS) team, Finance and Procurement (FMPS) to ensure integration Enterprise Data warehouse, Power BI, Workday, other systems
Assist with data calls, optimize systems to ensure ease of data collection and production
Help conduct Argonne end-user training and communication to ensure effective use
Position Requirements
4+ years of combined IT, enterprise systems, and/or related project management experience
Experience with university sponsored research, or IP and legal contracts management systems is highly preferred
Experience with project management, Six-Sigma, and/or Agile process
Highly organized, yet adaptable to changing priorities and requirements
Strong interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication
Process oriented, and experience with process improvement initiatives
Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical skills, and good financial management
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent is preferred
