The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.
Job Summary
This position will support the clinical and research operations of the Center for Blood Disorders, an outpatient/ambulatory care clinic that serves adults with benign hematology disorders. The Center for Blood Disorders includes the Sickle Cell Center, Adult Hemophilia Treatment Center, and the Adult Thrombophilia Program. This position may also support the general Benign Hematology Program at the Georgia Cancer Center. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provision of comprehensive care for adult patients with benign hematology disorders - physical examination; medical history review; ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests; prescribing medications and treatments; diagnosis; development and monitoring of treatment plans; timely, accurate and thorough documentation of all encounters; accessing ports and performing minor procedures; completion of patient letters, medical forms, prior authorizations, and other relevant documents; patient education; assisting with conduct of clinical research protocols; serving as a liaison with outreach sites, Emergency Department, inpatient facilities, and other ancillary services; assisting with daily functions of the Center for Blood Disorders as needed.
The Center for Blood Disorders serves patients across Georgia. Outreach clinics are conducted primarily via telemedicine, but some travel is required.
Responsibilities
- Provide care for benign hematology patients in Augusta and outreach clinics (in-person and telehealth) - physical examination; medical history review; order, conduct and interpret diagnostic tests; prescribe medications and treatments; diagnose; develop and monitor treatment plans; perform phlebotomy, port access, and minor procedures; accurate and thorough documentation of all encounters; complete patient letters, medical forms, prior authorizations, and other relevant documents; patient and family education; triaging patient needs and communicating with patients.
- Coordinate and implement outreach efforts organize and schedule outreach clinics; serve as point of contact across sites and disciplines, including Emergency Department, inpatient facilities, outreach sites, transition teams, and other ancillary services; serve as a resource for community educational events, such as health fairs, fund raisers, screenings, symposiums, lectures, and staff education.
- Assist with clinical research Recruit, consent/enroll patients for active research protocols; conduct research physical examinations; interpret and determine significance of research assessments and results; perform phlebotomy; assist with regulatory maintenance; assist with research scheduling and conduct of study visits; write prescriptions for study medications; communicate with research pharmacy; monitor for adverse events; assist with required research documentation; Assist with the development of new protocols and writing of grant proposals/manuscripts/abstracts.
- Perform duties as assigned to facilitate clinic and research operations and to promote optimal patient care and patient satisfaction. Assist with all daily functions of the Center for Blood Disorders and perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing.
Licensed as an a APRN through the Georgia Board of Nursing
Certified care NP through the national certification board specific to the area of practice
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and ACLS certification at time of hire
Preferred Qualifications
Hematology experience highly desired.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Relevant experience or related clinical experience (i.e., proficient in-patient evaluation procedures, medical terminology, interpretation of lab results and other diagnostic tests)
Must possess initiative, time management, interpersonal, and verbal/written communication skills.
Ability to set priorities, well-organized, and must strictly maintain confidentiality.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Detail-oriented.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
**This position is 100% grant funded**
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
Pay Grade: 25
Salary Minimum: $80,202 - Midpoint: $112,283
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
