Job Description

Clinical Informatics Trainee

Position Highlights:

  • The Clinical Informatics Trainee-RN is an experienced RN who is interested in practicing as an informatician and has some experience in and exposure to the field of clinical informatics.  They are not expected to have worked formally as an informatician, but any experience is appreciated. 
  • The trainee will be expected to join the clinical informatics team as an active member with the goal of assuming responsibilities and gaining the experience necessary to meet the per-requisites to qualify as a clinical informatics specialist and/or liaison with similar duties and expectations as such. 
  • The trainee is expected to be driven to self-education within the field of clinical informatics to help increase their understanding of the specialty as they perform the above work. 
  • The trainee should be familiar with bedside nursing care and preferably with oncology care in particular. 
  • The trainee should be a very effective communicator and skilled at fostering professional relationships with colleagues in all clinical areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform and present departmental work-flow analysis and recommendations for optimal work-flow with technology based solutions
    • Assists Project Managers and staff with clinical system implementation activities which include, but are not limited to:
    • Designing/authoring documentation including educational fliers, content and job aids.
    • Identifying program/application requirements from a physician/APP’s perspective
    • Preparing data and system flows
    • Participating in the system and integration testing of all clinical applications
    • Evaluating final programs/applications to ensure they meet the clinical needs of the provider, nursing, and ancillary community
    • Works closely with the necessary Information Technology resources required to address and resolve Information Technology issues affecting the physician community.
    • Works under the direction of the Clinical Informatics EHR Training Coordinator, and the vision of the CMIO, to prioritize provider-related projects and issues
  • Liaison to clinically focused committees, providers recommendation for planning, development  and implementation of clinical systems.
  • Establishes and leads appropriate forums and clinical committees as necessary to pro-actively address Information Technology related issues directly and/or indirectly impacting the Provider, nursing, and ancillary support within the Moffitt Cancer Center.
  • Lead in efforts to acquire early sponsorship for technology endeavors at all stakeholder levels: community, executive, management and clinical team
  • Continually strive to improve knowledge and skills in the development of clinical systems and processes.

 

Credentials and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: field of study – Nursing or related field
  • Active RN license
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience as a licensed healthcare professional
  • Excellent understanding of clinical work-flows and terminology.
  • Related experience in an oncology setting.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, communication, collaboration, mentoring, and change management.
  • Must have IT/Clinical Informatics familiarity and knowledge. Preference will be given to candidates who are comfortable working with spreadsheets, databases, and data listings, as well as those who can demonstrate experience in more than one of the following: patient care, chart review, and/or clinical process documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in information systems, clinical software, Electronic Medical Records-Cerner, Visio, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint is preferred.
