Responsibilities*
Assist in a wide variety of chairside procedures using four-handed dentistry in our graduate and predoctoral Pediatric Dentistry clinics. Assist and provide guidance to the providers with oral examinations and operative procedures. Work with and assist dental students, graduate residents and faculty, including assisting the dental residents with patient sedation and complex pediatric dental procedures. Prepare and position patients for treatment to facilitate four-handed dentistry. Set up prior to treatment and anticipate provider's needs for each procedure during treatment. Obtain patient vitals prior to sedation cases. Assist with oral sedations and behavior management of patient requiring special treatment care. Take digital radiographs, according to standard procedures or specific instructions. Prepare instruments, materials and work surfaces for use by the providers.

Work with pediatric residents and faculty in the operating room (OR) at Michigan Medicine /Hospital one day per week to provide dental care using four-handed dentistry. Submit requests for orders/purchases and stock all dental supplies for OR.

Take digital radiographs, according to standard procedures or specific instructions. Maintain cubicle stock of dental supplies along with dental suction lines and traps. Prepare instruments for sterilization. Assist in the training of dental students. Follow current infection control standards pertaining to OSHA and HIPPA guidelines.

Required Qualifications*
A certificate of completion from an accredited dental assisting program. Certification as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA). Knowledge of dental clinic practices and procedures. Must be CPR certified. Must hold a Radiography Certification (xray). Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, faculty, residents and staff at all times. Possess current knowledge of infection control standards pertaining to OSHA and Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA). Excellent communication skills. Excellent attendance record. Ability to multi-task and have attention to detail.

Desired Qualifications*
At least two years dental assisting experience and experience with patients with special healthcare needs or medical complexity. Knowledge of pediatric dental procedures. Experience with School of Dentistry policies and MiDent software.

Work Schedule
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 4:30

This position is for the School of Dentistry located at 1011 N University.
