The Information Technology department within the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) is actively recruiting for a SQL Developer to join our small team in the management and development of custom database applications within a C#.NET environment. Responsibilities include data modeling, database design and maintenance, Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) processes design, SQL programming, and operating system scripting. This position also incorporates system and data architecture and business analysis. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a variety of administrative and research applications and reporting that support both the operations and research mission of our College.
This is a hybrid position. The University of Minnesota is currently offering flexible working options. Specifics will be discussed during the interview stage.
Essential Duties
40% - Database development - Apply proficiency in database analysis and design methodology in meeting programmatic and business related information needs. Work in collaboration with other team members, other college staff and university contacts to build and maintain database systems as an important component to larger team projects.
Designs, builds and maintains system programming components of College database resources
Design, build or update data extract, transform and load procedures for College database system
Build stored procedures to serve as the programming interface from the web to College databases
40% - Institutional Data Management - Collect and manipulate data from backend systems for management, operational, and occasionally research purposes. Acquire, manipulate and present data for routine and ad hoc reporting purposes. Work to build interfaces to college systems to populate them with intuitional and other data. Perform SQL programming on the Oracle Data Warehouse as well as university SQL hotel to manipulate data and related entities.
Generate ad hoc data and reporting relating to institutional data
Using institutional data populate end user systems like the CFANS e-mail system
Using Microsoft's Reporting Services (SSRS) and Tableau to build database enabled reports
Serve as a local subject matter expert on University institutional data.
10% - Data and Reporting Infrastructure & Security - Apply proficiency in Microsoft technologies to develop solutions and address issues with data integration in the college technology environment. Maintain a high level of security around institutional and private application data. Serve as liaison to University data and reporting services for the team.
Administration of reporting and application web services
Analyze, recommend, and implement college data and report security
Collaborate on administration of college SQL Server databases (MS-SQL,MySQL) with University Hosting Services
10% - Administrative - Undertake professional development activities to maintain a high level of competency in emerging technologies, database technologies, and data management methodologies. Maintain ongoing contact with other units within the University to keep abreast of new developments in the areas of data management and administrative systems.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with minimum of 2 years of experience with database management, including at least 6-12 months of experience with Microsoft SQL Server databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated progressive experience with the Microsoft server development environment, particularly MS SQL Server.
Previous experience in K-12 or higher education.
Familiarity with HR, financial and student systems.
Demonstrated progressive experience with Microsoft's web development environment and tools including Microsoft ASP, VBScript, HTML, ADO, .NET, and Powershell.
Experience with MySql environment.
A strong commitment to maintaining a collaborative team oriented environment as well as working independently.
Willingness to propose and implement creative solutions to respond to user concerns.
Demonstrated strengths in communication skills, both oral and written.
Demonstrated ability to research and solve issues.
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Ability to learn and adapt to new software technologies.
