Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Nurse Practitioner will work independently to provide college health medical care to all eligible patients which includes the promotion of health and prevention of disease as well as evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illness and acute medical issues. The Nurse Practitioner must understand the values, beliefs and attitudes of a culturally diverse student population at Fairmont State University to inform a culturally-responsive approach to student health care. The Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with the Falcon Wellness and Mental Health Services team to engage in a variety of tasks associated with the day-to-day clinical operations of the department in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Under the Direction of the Director of Falcon Wellness the job responsibilities include by may not be limited to the following:
- Perform nurse practitioner level clinical assessments, and treatment of common acute illnesses, including first aid and urgent care;
- Refer patients for labs, radiology or specialty providers as needed;
- Provide complete GYN services including: pelvic exams, STI testing, evaluation and treatment, pregnancy testing, STI/HIV prevention and family planning counseling;
- Provide first aid and initiate appropriate interventions in emergency situations.

Additionally, the nurse practitioner will be an integral part of the Falcon Wellness and Mental Health Services Department, including adhering to current standard of practice in medicine, nursing, staff management, licensed lab and hazardous waste management, and integration of mental health services and student health services. This includes the following: Plan for and implement clinical and health education programs; Teach health related topics on an individual and group basis; Seek out grant opportunities, applies for, and manages health care grants; Coordinate screenings and follow-up of communicable diseases; Contribute to efficient clinic operation such as committee work, faculty evaluations, curriculum and program development, clinical consultation, and in-service training for staff and faculty; Participate in departmental functions such as committee work, staff meetings, and work groups, as well as serve on college-wide committees, such as Faculty Senate committees.

The preferred candidate will support the mission of the University as a part of a team in a college setting and will work with students, staff, faculty, and administrators from diverse backgrounds; cultural, social, economic, and sexual orientation.
The candidate be available to work day and evening schedules for programs and services as needed and will perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Required Education
Master of Science in Nursing.
Required Licenses and/or Certifications
The College Health Nurse Practitioner must possess a current license to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of West Virginia, demonstrate completion of a Nurse Practitioner program from an accredited educational institution with a concentration in adult and/or family practice, and have licensure as an APRN.

The Nurse Practitioner must maintain appropriate certification from a national accrediting body and be certified in Basic Life Support.

Observes appropriate conduct standards; Sees patients in a timely fashion; Maintains attendance and punctuality; Qualified individuals should be able to articulate a strong commitment to diversity, and have the ability to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
The Nurse Practitioner must have two years of previous advanced professional nursing experience, with some gynecological experience required. College Health, Emergency Room or Acute Care Medicine experience is preferred.
