Description





Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences at the
University of Oklahoma invites applications for the
position of nine-month (full-time) renewable term
faculty for the general education course “Gateway to the
Sciences”. This course is part of a suite of courses
that meet the General Education Core V requirement:
First Year Experience (FYE).



Specifically, Gateway to the Sciences (CAS 1553) will
focus on building confidence in one’s ability to pursue
science-related studies by exploring the diverse range
of opportunities available for studying science at OU,
and identifying various science-related programs,
majors, and careers.



We seek candidates who will contribute to supporting
students in all aspects of their engagement with the
campus and the scientific community. Successful
candidates will have a commitment to excellence in
teaching with emphasis on student engagement through
active learning. Selected applicants will be appointed
as 9 month renewable term faculty. The term of the
initial appointment is five years, and faculty who meet
the appropriate qualification requirements are eligible
to be considered for renewal of their appointment. The
regular teaching load is 4:4 with 80% teaching and 20%
service.

Qualifications





Required:




  • Master's degree in science, science education or
    closely related field.     



Preferred:




  • Ph.D. in Science, Science Education, STEM Education,
    or closeley related area by time of appointment.


  • One year of undergraduate teaching experience


  • Experiance teaching a standardized course with a
    common curriculum across all sections taught by a
    team of faculty.


  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Salary range




$50,000 (Instructor) - $52,000 (lecturer). Compensation
will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Additional compensation for summer teaching will be
optional.




The starting date for the position will be in August
2024.
