Position Description
Dr. Michael E. Chernew, the Leonard D. Schaeffer Professor of Health Care Policy, seeks a full-time work Research Assistant (RA) to contribute to health policy research projects. The candidate will work on topics such as Medicare Advantage, prices in the commercial sector, hospital and physician markets, and Medicare Policy. The selected candidate must have strong communication skills and be able to review and synthesize academic literature, drafting and possibly co-authoring policy briefs, blogs, and peer reviewed papers. Ideally the candidate will have a background in health economics and health policy related to health care financing and delivery in the US. Although the candidate will work with a team on these projects, they must be able to take a leadership role and perform work independently.
Prior research experience, along with demonstrated knowledge of research areas, research methods and experience with statistical analysis techniques is desired. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated to succeed with limited supervision and direction. This position is ideal for candidates seeking to work in health care policy.
 
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree preferred, preferably in health policy, economics, or a health industry related field.
 
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Related work experience is desired.
  • Responsibilities will require knowledge of health care delivery systems and the relevant research populations, an understanding of statistics, statistical programs and research methods, as well as data management.
  • Responsibilities will require strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate objectives to multiple audiences.
  • Required interpersonal skills: ability to work well within a group or independently; organization and attention to detail; demonstrates initiative and resourcefulness to complete tasks without high level direction; independent judgment, patience and ability to maintain a calm and cooperative attitude during periods of increased activity.
  • High level understanding of health policy and health care systems in the U.S.
  • Experience with statistical programming using at least one of the following, a plus: STATA, SAS, Python, R.
Additional Information
This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.
