Job Description

Summary

Dr. Daniel Calame, Instructor in the Section of Pediatric Neurology & Developmental Neurosciences, is seeking a Research Technician to assist with the ongoing human genetics research in the laboratory of Dr. James Lupski. The focus of Dr. Calame's research is the genetics of neurodevelopmental and neuromuscular disorders like autism, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and neuropathies. Research studies will involve exome and genome sequencing of human subjects, molecular biology, cell culture that includes induced pluripotent stem cells, and zebrafish models of human disease. This position will be located at Baylor College of Medicine Cullen Building with occasional visits to Texas Children's Hospital Mark Wallace Tower.

Job Duties

  • Works on sample collection and inventory, DNA & RNA processing, and submission to the Human Genome Sequencing Center.
  • Conducts confirmatory studies that includes polymerase chain reaction (PCR), digital droplet PCR, and chromosomal microarray.
  • Works on cell culture of fibroblasts, lymphoblastoid cell lines, and induced pluripotent stem cells.
  • Performs zebrafish husbandry and experimentation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.
