Job Description

Summary

The lab is seeking a research technologist at entry level to assist laboratory based research in a laboratory at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center campus. It is biomedical project to study blood clotting. It involves protein isolation from human plasma and animal experiments. The position will be under Veterans Affairs research service under department of Pathology & immunology, Baylor College of Medicine and require interaction with Pathology department at Baylor College of Medicine.

Job Duties

  • Prepares and runs polyacrylamide gel and agarose gel electrophoresis.
  • Performs basic molecular biology techniques (DNA and RNA, Plasmid Isolation, PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, DNA transfection, transformation), tissue culture techniques (culturing, sub-culturing and maintenance of stock cultures, culture media preparation and sterilization, Maintenance of cell lines).
  • Assists in maintenance of mouse colony of 2-glycoprotein I- knock-out animals and isolation primary trophoblast cells from mouse placenta.
  • Investigates the mechanism of blood clotting in Antiphospholipid antibody Syndrome in human and mouse and involves isolating antibodies from human serum.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology.
  • Proficient in computer skills that includes in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
