Organizational Unit Overview
It is the mission of the Department of Pediatrics, East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine, to provide exemplary medical education/training of physicians in pediatric medicine at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, it is the mission of the department to provide model comprehensive primary and consultative subspecialty care to children of eastern North Carolina, to advance scientific knowledge through basic and clinical research, and to provide continuing medical education opportunities for physicians in the region.
Job Duties
The purpose of this position is to provide nursing support to the Ambulatory Pediatric Clinics at the Pediatric Specialty Clinic. The responsibilities including providing direct patient care, facilitating flow of clinical activities, and a variety of treatments to the assigned patient population. The individual in this position will perform a variety of tasks with some detail, requiring general understanding and skill in the application of work procedures. Work assignments generally involve patients in stable condition. Work includes the reinforcement of routine patient teaching and may include participation in orientation of students and other staff of the unit, procedures, and/or the function of the nursing assistant. All work is performed under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician.

Currently, hours of clinic operation are from 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday, with a rotating scheduled late day to cover patient care. Current basic CPR certification is preferred.

The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as its teaching hospital, as well as the flagship hospital for ECU Health.

Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b. 457). This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS). Minimum Education/Experience
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require registration as a Nurse Aide by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, or certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA.)
License or Certification required by statute or regulation
Depending on candidate qualifications, one of the following will be required:
(1) Contributing: Registered NAI through the NC Department of Health Human Services
(2) Journey: Registered NAII through the NC Board of Nursing
(3) Advanced: Certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is preferred OR Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT). If not already certified or registered, please note that certification or registration through the previous mentioned organizations, or a CCMA through the National Healthcareer Association, must be obtained 6 months from your start date for continued employment.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Knowledge of basic medical terminology and human anatomy
Ability to execute complex therapeutic procedures
Ability to make accurate physical observations of patients
Experience with pediatric patients
License or Certification required by the Department
