The Department of Biological Sciences of Augusta University invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin in August 2024, with rank and compensation commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants must possess a research doctorate and postdoctoral experience in Ecology or a similar field. The ideal candidate will conduct research in Chemical Ecology, Disease Ecology, Vector Ecology, or a related field that impacts human health. Augusta University is Georgia's only public research university that includes a medical center. Opportunities for interdisciplinary research are available within the departments of the College of Science and Mathematics as well as the Medical College of Georgia, the Dental College of Georgia, and the School of Public Health.

The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching and will be expected to establish an externally funded research program involving modern techniques that may range from the field to the laboratory and which is suitable for training both graduate and undergraduate students. The successful applicant will teach upper-division courses that align with their areas of expertise as well as introductory courses. In addition, he or she will teach in the MS in Biomolecular Science program and mentor research students in thesis research.

Responsibilities

Teaching - 45%
Teaching courses as assigned

Research- 45%
Establish an extramurally funded research program in a field of Biological Science which supports the mission of the department.

Service - 10%
Service on committees and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. or similar terminal degree in an appropriate field of biological science

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member

Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience. Per Board of Regents (BOR) policy, Professors must have a terminal degree

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

• Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
• Evidence of ability as a teacher;
• Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
• Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
• Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

A demonstrated record of successful research.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

The Department, located within the College of Science and Mathematics, is composed of 24 full-time faculty members with expertise across a broad spectrum of biological disciplines. We have a strong commitment to providing research opportunities to our students in addition to excellent classroom and laboratory instruction. The graduate program in Biomolecular Science involves faculty from chemistry and physics as well as the biological sciences.
