Job Description

Summary

The Division of Thoracic Surgery of the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a post-doctoral associate in basic and translational research in mesothelioma and esophageal cancer. Our laboratory has obtained two R01s to study mechanisms of treatment resistance mediated through the mitochondria. The candidate will be the primary scientist to evaluate mitochondria pathways associated with treatment resistance. This project will focus on the epigenetic and mitochondrial mechanisms that prevent response to immunotherapy or chemotherapy. The project will require in vivo assessment in mouse models including already developed patient-derived xenografts (PDEs).

Job Duties

  • Performs tumor metabolism, including Seahorse XF assays and mitochondrial imaging.
  • Analyzes metabolomics with the knowledge basis to interact and work with the core facilities at BCM.
  • Performs basic molecular biology and cell culture techniques with the ability to teach these techniques to fellows and students.
  • Performs techniques mutation detection, gene expression profiling, chromatin immunoprecipitation, DNA/RNA-protein interactions cell culture, lentiviral transductions, and transcriptomic analysis.
  • Assists with direct tumor collection from the operating room as required based on the specific project.
  • Uses mouse models including tumor injections and measurements and drug treatment. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Dynamic bcl-2 homology domain (DBP) profiling of solid tumors (esophageal, mesothelioma, and lung), however, we can teach this technique.
  • Biostatistical analysis of metabolomic and transcriptomic data.
