What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an electrical engineer to join the W87-1 Systems Development Tester (SE3686) team. On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Design automated test solutions for weapons systems – including test fixtures, cables, electrical sensors, and instrumentation hardware.
  • Design and test electrical circuits boards and automated tester equipment hardware.
  • Integrate lower-level designs and subsystems into a complete system working across a wide variety of engineering domains (hardware, software, mechanical, aerospace, etc.).
  • Provide technical direction to electronics technicians in the installation, calibration, troubleshooting and operation of electrical, controls, data, and instrumentation hardware and systems.
  • Troubleshoot anomalies and failures during various states of testing and development to identify the root-cause and develop/implement mitigations.
  • Collaborate with SNL Systems Organizations and other internal stakeholders.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM. Some travel is required for this position.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant STEM discipline, plus (1) one year of professional experience; OR Bachelor’s degree in stated field, plus (5) five years of experience.
  • Active DOE Q clearance (or DOD Top Secret clearance).

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in above-stated relevant fields.
  • Experience in board-level and/or component-level circuit design.
  • Expertise in designing digital and/or analog circuitry including sensors (e.g., FPGA, Mixed Signal, ASIC).
  • Modeling and analysis experience using MATLAB, Simulink, PSpice, Mentor Graphics, etc.
  • Experience with automatic test equipment (ATE) - hardware and software.
  • Experience with nuclear weapon program and projects.
  • Experience working in Nuclear Deterrence programs.

About Our Team:

The ND System Electrical Test Department (02332) performs electrical and functional testing, at the System-level, to support Sandia’s major ND modernization programs. The primary focus of the department is to conduct testing to support nuclear weapons modernizations, including the W80-4, Mk21, and W87-1. The departments maintain and operates multiple laboratories across SNL and interacts extensively with the Design, Environmental Testing, and Qualifications teams of all major ND modernization programs. Additionally, our team in responsible for the design, development, and manufacturing of system-level development testers used during all system-level electrical/functional testing.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
