What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a postdoctoral appointee to join our quantum optics and quantum sensing group at the Center for Integrated Nanotechnology (CINT (https://cint.lanl.gov/) ) at Sandia National Laboratories (New Mexico). The focus of this group is discovering and utilizing solid state defect centers in wide bandgap semiconductors for quantum information and quantum sensing. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong background in experimental optics, quantum information, and/or condensed matter physics. All equipment/resources are provided within our center. You will be working closely a team of staff, postdoc, graduate students and technologists who are experts in ion nano-implantation, quantum information sciences, single photon emitters, and nitrogen-vacancy magnetometry. You will engage in original research in many areas of solid-state defect center discovery and utilization, including new capability demonstration. A Ph.D. in physics, materials science, chemistry or a related field is required. Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Qualifications We Require: + PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment, in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Sciences, Quantum Information, or related discipline + Proven communication skills as evidenced by a record of publication of results in peer-reviewed journals and external presentations at scientific conferences + Experience will include experimental research and hands on laboratory experience + Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance Qualifications We Desire: Well-developed skills in one or more of the following areas are desired: + Experimental background in a field related to quantum information. + Experience with optical techniques for pump-probe photoluminescence experiments + Experience with microwave or radio frequency magnetic resonance techniques. + Experience with nitrogen-vacancy atomic force microscopy. + Experience in working on multiple projects simultaneously. + High motivation to write manuscripts and present at conferences. + Programming/software experience with Python, Mathematica, Matlab, and/or LabView. About Our Team: Our department supports the Center for Integrated Nanotechnology (CINT). CINT is a Department of Energy/Office of Science Nanoscale Science Research Center operating as a national user facility devoted to establishing the scientific principles that govern the design, performance, and integration of nanoscale materials. Through its core facility in Albuquerque and gateway facility in Los Alamos, CINT provides users from academia, industry, and government labs open access to the tools and expertise needed to explore the continuum from scientific discovery to the integration of nanostructures into the micro- and macro world. CINT is an equal partnership between Sandia National Laboratories and Los Alamos National Laboratory. Position Information: This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
