ROLE SUMMARY

The Enterprise Platforms & Security (EP&S) team delivers the following capabilities for Pfizer: Business application platforms supporting Pfizer’s enterprise application and critical business processes. Infrastructure allowing business traffic to travel where it needs to go, internally and externally, along with the appropriate access controls. EP&S secures Pfizer's most important information assets through world class controls and protections and enables Pfizer's business results by making security an enabler and not a roadblock to achieving business results.

The Digital Hosting Solutions (DHS) team represents the Digital Center of Excellence (CoE) for cloud infrastructure delivery capabilities, providing foundational public and private cloud services to all business lines, globally across Pfizer.  DHS is a high-performing team, focused on automated delivery of secure, scalable, reliable, compliant, operationally viable, and cost-effective cloud and on-premise datacenter solutions. 

We are seeking a hands-on Design Engineer with strong experience in Hybrid Cloud Delivery platforms and Infrastructure as Code (IaC), DevOps practices and cloud application development.  Provisioning allocation and ongoing management of infrastructure-as-code resources with configuration management.  The individual will become an expert in Pfizer’s Infrastructure Delivery Lifecycle (IDLC) process and will play a key role in the qualification of new cloud microservices as they are released from hyperscaler vendors (e.g. AWS, Azure). The individual must be highly self-motivated, eager to learn, and effective when working in a team environment.  A strong aptitude towards self-development and growth is required.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Manager, Design Engineer must operate with the highest levels of integrity, as colleagues within DHS are often entrusted with high levels of access to cloud-based production and development environments. The ability to protect confidential information, identify risk conditions, alert on situations of non-compliance, and operate within defined policies & procedures is a must.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work directly with Cloud Engineering and Product Owners to design and fully implement delivery automation across multiple platforms/endpoints (AWS, Azure, vSphere).
  • Partner and collaborate with peer teams in the Digital Center of Excellence (CoE) to promote a unified approach to digital infrastructure.
  • Create delivery standards with Enterprise Architecture & DevSecOps to drive consistency and automation code reuse throughout the organizations while following Pfizer’s Infrastructure Delivery Lifecycle (IDLC) SOP.
  • Design and implement access management in accordance with Global Information Security (GIS) standards and qualified with Digital Risk Management.
  • Work directly with Solutions & Cloud Engineering to assist in the development of designs to accommodate new application deployments, and/or the modernization of existing applications using native cloud IaaS/PaaS.
  • Deliver Prototypes within sprints for Product Owner decision for fail fast decision making.   
  • Platform and interface upgrade planning and execution. i.e. Full lifecycle management
  • Participation in daily Agile standups.  Provide regular updates on work in progress.  Identify and escalate issues & risks that may result in delays or design flaws.
  • Create and maintain delivery documentation in the DHS Confluence site.  Utilize Jira to maintain status on tasks and sprints in flight.
  • Provide engineering/development support for continuous improvement-oriented requirements generated by Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams.
  • Participate in cloud security events including purple (proactive) and red (reactive) teams to identify, report, and resolve risk and/or issue conditions.
  • Partner with Global Information Security and EP&S Compliance Teams to ensure satisfaction of key security & compliance requirements particularly for new development activities.
  • Work collaboratively with external parties including cloud suppliers (e.g. AWS) and Pfizer AES strategic suppliers (e.g. TCS) as part of a larger development team.
  • Commit to ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Stay abreast of emerging cloud automation (IaC, Gitops, etc.) techniques to drive delivery innovation.
  • Position will require to oversee external contractor work.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Candidates should be highly motivated and capable of working independently.  
  • 5+ years of experience working in the corporate information cloud automation space.
  • 5+ years of experience inIT with a DevSecOps background
  • Experience implementing or supporting Cloud Based Delivery solutions like Morpheus Data, Terraform, Ansible.
  • 5+ years of software development experience utilizing Python, Ruby, Node.js, PowerShell to develop automation, APIs and microservices deployments is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Fluency in English (written and spoken) is a must.
  • Hands on, coding level experience with technologies such as Terraform, PowerShell, Python, and/or Node.js.
  • DevOps know-how building and deploying infrastructure with cloud deployment, build and test automation technologies like Terraform, Chef, Docker, GitHub actions, Azure DevOps, Selenium, etc.
  • Experience with large scale IT projects and how the various roles work together to ensure success.
  • Experience with continuous integration tools (e.g. GitHub actions Jenkins, Code Pipeline, Code Build).
  • Hands on familiarity with AWS CLI, CloudFormation, Terraform & Ansible.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively document software designs and communicate implementation details.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintaining confidentiality of investigation information.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. 
  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements and constraints.
  • Ability to use creative thinking and advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working in Pharmaceutical or other regulated industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in an agile work environment possessing qualities such as a collaborative mindset, adaptability to change, and a proactive problem-solving approach.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Cloud certifications, particularly in AWS (Foundational, Associate or Professional) are highly desired.
