Job Description
Job Summary:The Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) within the Administrative Systems Portfolio is transforming the finance, human resources, and research administration support environment across the UW-System, while focusing on people, processes, and technology. This includes implementation of a new Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) system (Workday) and supporting structures for document management and data warehousing. The Business Systems Analyst will serve a vital role within the Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) in supporting UW-System campuses as they complete activities required for a successful July 2025 deployment.
This individual in this position will formulate and define systems scope and objectives through research and fact-finding combined with an understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements; devise or modify complex information systems, including analysis of business and user needs, documenting requirements, and revising existing system logic difficulties as necessary and determine and recommend programs required for optimal problem solution within cost/performance objectives; participate in requirements planning and feasibility determination; perform analyses and prepare reports to ensure that programs meet or exceed schedule commitments, work on tasks including project or functional requirements, functional design, functional configuration, testing and documentation.
The Business systems analyst will support the objectives of ATP and campus partners, document processes and requirements, perform system configuration, coordinate, plan and execute testing efforts, and use a variety of project management tools to track and report status and progress.
The successful candidate is an excellent communicator, critical thinker, motivated with a positive attitude, and able to independently work on and balance priorities for multiple initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Makes final determinations on systems requirements and technology selection and performs complex data analysis to ensure data management objectives are met. Provides guidance to lower level staff and serves as a subject matter expert to leadership.
40% Provides direction for the mapping of business processes using advanced process-mapping methodologies
10% Makes recommendations in the selection of technology solutions to align with business strategies
5% Provides guidance to lower level staff in the design, development, and implementation of data reporting and business intelligence systems
10% Designs, develops, and implements complex data reporting and business intelligence systems
5% Provides advanced procedural and technical guidance to unit staff regarding technology usage and management
5% Develops and assesses opportunities for new unit staff training opportunities
25% Serves as a subject matter expert to institutional and unit leadership on critical technology issues

1. Business analysis experience. Preference for candidates with 3+ years of experience or education equivalent
2. Ability to perform complex data analysis
3. Strong communication skills; written and verbal
4. Excellent notetaking skills with attention to detail
5. Ability to synthesize themes and organize notes in a format useful to project managers
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience in reporting, analytics, or business intelligence
2. Experience working in a higher education setting
3. Experience working with an ERP system implementation
4. Experience in Finance, Human Resources, or Research Administration
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate sensitive information effectively.
6. Demonstrated experience working effectively with senior leaders and ability to act as a partner and trusted advisor.
