What Your Job Will Be Like:

The Component, Science, Engineering, and Production (CSEP) Information Systems and Operational Technology Solutions department, org 7577, is seeking an experienced Information Technology/Computer Science professional to join our collaborative team responsible for providing Information Technology (IT), Operational Technology (OT), and cyber assurance solutions and services to Sandia’s complex discrete manufacturing and lot-based production center (org. 7500). This hands-on position is a great opportunity an individual who enjoys implementing, supporting, upgrading, optimizing, and extending complex COTS systems. Furthermore, this position is ideal for an experienced technical professional that is seeking an opportunity to broaden their skills by collaborating with other technical staff to perform IT and OT related work across multiple domains including, but not limited to, connecting OT to specialized networks; work automation, implementation of IIOT smart manufacturing and manufacturing execution system (MES) COTS software; working with Oracle ERP manufacturing SMEs, researching APIs to interface data among systems; and collaborating with cyber assurance personnel. The successful candidate will enjoy leveraging their existing experience and learning new skills to modernize Sandia’s smart manufacturing capabilities that include maturing our digital thread.

On any given day, duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead a team of IT/System Administrators to provide IT/OT support.
  • Collaborate with other team leads to support the smart manufacturing IIOT and MES software implementation and support initiatives.
  • Develop and/or research existing methods to use APIs to interface data between the organization’s Oracle ERP, MES, and smart manufacturing systems.
  • Meet with engineers to automate tasks and reduce or eliminate manual data entry.
  • Function as lead coordinator to ensure proper architecture for the center’s Operational Technology network. Duties include overseeing the connection of devices to the network and helping to integrate with services and data on other Sandia corporate networks.
  • Assist in the governance and stewardship of center data.
  • Collaborate with cyber professionals to deliver secure solutions.
  • Develop and cultivate trust-based relationships with our corporate CIO partners and organizations internal and external to Sandia.
  • Participate in digital thread/digital twin initiatives.

Due to the nature of the work, this is an on-site position; however, occasional telecommuting may be possible after the first six months.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Master’s degree computer science, software engineering, management information systems, computer engineering, or other relevant STEM field plus five (5) years of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree in disciplines previously stated plus nine (9) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience implementing and supporting enterprise software for medium to large organizations (e.g. gathering system requirements, developing architecture, configurations, problem-ticket research and resolution, interfacing with users, etc.).
  • Proficient with scripting languages (e.g. JavaScript, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Experience with SQL Server and/or Oracle relational databases.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Active DOE L or Q Clearance.
  • 10+ years of experience supporting medium to large organizations in one or more of the following areas: system/server administration, network administration, software installation, custom software development, scripting, cyber security, or operational technology.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and/or supporting complex discrete manufacturing-related computer systems (e.g. ERP, MES, IIOT, etc.).
  • Experience with Windows/Linux/Unix operating systems.
  • Experience automating and/or streamlining COTS software functions via custom software solutions.
  • Experience managing share drives.
  • Experience interfacing data among applications using API’s, interface tables, etc.
  • Ability and desire to deal with ambiguity and varied tasks simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with Sandia’s IT and Cyber Security policies.
  • Experience integrating custom hardware or software into Sandia’s corporate systems.
  • Experience working with Sandia’s corporate IT and Mission Computing Support (MCS) organizations.
  • Familiarity with, or certification in, IT or quality Frameworks such as ITIL or Lean Six Sigma.

About Our Team:

The Component, Science, Engineering, and Production (CSEP), org. 7577, provides IT, OT, and cyber security assurance support and services to customers throughout Sandia’s component manufacturing center. The mission-focused work performed by the department is varied, challenging, interesting, and often visible to upper management. Department 7577's teams have deep knowledge and experience with manufacturing systems and processes, and we collaborate with colleagues across Sandia’s CIO and Cyber organizations to optimize solutions. The department’s teams consist of cyber assurance; oracle ERP manufacturing operational support and expertise; custom application development (C#.net, Java); Microsoft business intelligence and DataMart services; and production tester system (PTS) Java application development and support.

Posting Duration:

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

Position Information:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
