Job Summary
The recently established Rose Park Primary Care Clinic provides access to exceptional primary care services for the communities surrounding the University of Utah Population Health Center. Leveraging a dynamic team of medical faculty and students, this student-led clinic is a novel approach to medicine and is at the core of the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine’s innovative MD curriculum.

This clinic is seeking a Medical Assistant II (MA II) ready to contribute to a healthcare delivery model that blends medical education with high-quality, trauma-informed, patient-centered care. This unique role primarily supports direct patient care and the educational development of medical students for the Rose Park Primary Care Clinic. This position also provides secondary support to the University of Utah Population Health Center’s other clinical programs as part of the Center’s Medical Assistant Pool.
The Rose Park Primary Care Clinic Medical Assistant’s primary responsibilities will include a combination of the following:

Clinical Support and Assistive Patient Care: Aid faculty preceptors and medical students in providing comprehensive patient care.
Scheduling Management: Manage schedules for patients, faculty, and students, enhancing both care and educational experiences.
Educational Integration: Support the clinic’s educational mission by facilitating the learning process for students.
Office and Clinical Operations: Take part in office management, including supply ordering and maintaining clinic protocols, to ensure a supportive healthcare and learning environment.

This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at 168 North 1950 West, Salt Lake City, UT 84116 if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities

Clinical Support and Assistive Patient Care:

Collaborate with faculty and students to deliver high-value, quality, effective care.Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to clinic procedures such as recording temperatures, pulse rate, blood pressure and responses to standardized medical history questions.
Support completion of patient paperwork and procedural preparations.
Serve as a chaperone during exams and assist with clinical procedures.
Performs Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Waved Lab tests such as urine dip stick, Hgb, Hct, finger stick, glucose, hemoccults, hCg and reports results. May perform patient phlebotomies in accordance with clinic procedures and physician orders after specialized training.
Monitors and cleans assigned patient examination rooms, unit areas and unit equipment reporting outdated supplies, stock levels and restock set levels of items and necessary equipment repairs.
Scheduling Management:

Coordinate follow-up visits and schedule appointments under licensed staff guidance.
Manage schedules for preceptors, students and patients in collaboration with medical director.
Educational Integration:

Provide directed patient education under supervision of healthcare team.
Support student learning of clinic procedures.
Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinic services.
Office and Clinical Operations:

Facilitate patient care coordination and communication with healthcare providers.
Handle phone management, care coordination, and triage, especially when students are not present.
Offer patient/family guidance as per physician instructions and manage medication refills according to protocol.
Report patient condition concerns and changes in condition to licensed healthcare providers.
Perform clerical tasks such as filing of patient’s records, locating and compiling department charts, obtaining medical records from other providers and entering charges for billing purposes, attending mandatory training, and assisting with diagnostic procedures under supervision.
Maintain and reinforce clinic protocols and standards for learners.

Minimum Qualifications
Required
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

One of the following:
Current Advanced EMT certification with the State of Utah.
Current certification to practice as a Paramedic in the State of Utah.
Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through AAMA
Currently credentialed in ABR-OE (Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry) through AAMA.
Current certification as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through AMT
Current certification as a National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) through NCCT.
Current Clinical Medical Assistant Certification through NHA.
Current certification as a NRCMA – Medical Assistant through the National Association for Health Professionals.
Or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

If candidate is not certified upon hire, they must have completed an accredited Medical Assisting program before date of hire. One of the indicated certifications must be obtained within six months of hire.
