What Your Job Will Be Like:

Systems Mission Engineering at Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a highly motivated Process Improvement Specialist to support the engineering operations team for the Space Mission Program. In this role, you will be trusted to act as a champion and change agent for high quality results center-wide. You will play a key role in establishing and deploying strategic plans, policies, processes, and procedures to assure the Systems Mission Engineering center meets or exceeds internal and external stakeholder needs and expectations.

On any given day, you may be called upon to:

  • Seek opportunities for improving capabilities and process
  • Monitor and support designing sustainable compliance processes, including governance and oversight
  • Partner across a multitude of functional areas to craft innovative solutions to complex center wide cross-cutting issues
  • Communicate effectively and influentially to leadership using presentations, written analyses, concise reporting, and visualizations
  • Lead benchmarking alternatives, support preventive action analysis as well as track key metrics to inform leadership decisions
  • Anticipate, identify, and mitigate risks
  • Execute management assurance activities to monitor and meet corporate objectives and requirements
  • Design processes to enhance workflow
  • Provide input and criteria for development of effectiveness measures and metrics to determine organizational performance improvement

This position must be able to work onsite at our main facility in Albuquerque, NM. This position will be hired as a Quality Systems Professional (either Member or Senior level).

Qualifications We Require:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience defined by the following parameters: an Associate’s plus four (4) years of relevant work experience OR a High School Diploma and eight (8) years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q and SCI security clearance, which may require polygraph examination

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience using assurance tools and methodologies
  • Knowledge and experience applying risk assessment, change management, project management and configuration management processes and methodologies
  • Experience with Sandia policy and procedure, including governance and oversight, standards , tools and technology, metrics and reporting
  • Experience working effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Experience evaluating competing requirements and characteristics between processes to determine the most effective, integrated system solution
  • Ability to track, analyze, and identify trends in data to detect systemic issues
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills when there is lack of direction and/or ambiguious requirments
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and people skills with proven ability to perform effectively in a teaming environment
  • Ability to facilitate uncompromising high quality standards while building and maintaining trust-based relationships at all levels of internal and external senior leadership
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and follow through to completion on multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines and frequent interruptions
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (TEAMS, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.) as well as WordPress, SharePoint Online and Confluence
  • The ability to model behaviors that reflect Sandia’s core values

About Our Team:

The Systems Mission Engineering Center (6300) organization provides real-time remote sensing solutions in space, ground, and other domains for actionable intelligence against threats to the nation. We are focused on developing future program opportunities for the Space Mission Program, engaging with key external communities, agencies, and industrial entities. The Center 6300 Engineering Operations (6302) department is responsible for aligning and integrating center and program work with operational requirements including safety, security, facilities, quality, and human resources. The team develops operational solutions by defining, analyzing, and testing alternative approaches to improve efficiency while reducing and mitigating risk.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
