Job Description

The Center for Brain, Biology, and Behavior (CB3) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking an accomplished scientist to join our team as the Associate Director for Research (ADR) at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Research Professor. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading and advancing CB3’s research mission to promote foundational knowledge and discovery in neuroscience, and to translate these insights into novel methods and technologies that enhance cognitive function and brain health.

Responsibilities
1. Research Leadership and Strategy
• Establish and lead programmatic research to enable scientific advances in cognitive neuroscience and the acquisition of external grant funding.
• Collaborate with the Director to develop and execute CB3’s research vision and strategic plan.
• Identify emerging trends and opportunities in neuroscience research and provide guidance on potential research directions.
• Foster interdisciplinary collaborations among faculty members, researchers, and external partners to enhance research outcomes.

2. Research Management and Administration
• Oversee the implementation and management of research projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Provide guidance and support to researchers and principal investigators in designing experiments, analyzing data, and interpreting results.
• Facilitate the acquisition of research funding by assisting in grant writing, reviewing proposals, and identifying potential funding sources.

3. Collaboration and Networking
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with external collaborators, industry partners, funding agencies, and other research institutions.
• Promote interdisciplinary collaboration by organizing research seminars, workshops, and conferences within and outside CB3.
• Seek opportunities for collaborative research projects, joint publications, and knowledge exchange initiatives.

4. Team Development and Mentorship
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students, fostering their professional growth.
• Facilitate training programs and workshops to enhance research skills and promote a culture of continuous learning within CB3.
• Support recruitment efforts by participating in the selection process for research staff positions.

5. Research Communication and Dissemination
• Promote CB3’s research accomplishments through presentations at national and international conferences.
• Develop and implement strategies to effectively communicate research findings to diverse audiences, including policymakers, clinicians, and the broader public.
• Collaborate with CB3 staff to develop content for newsletters, press releases, and social media platforms.

Job Duties
• 40% administration (0.40 FTE)
• 60% research (0.60 FTE)

Minimum Qualifications
• Ph.D. in cognitive neuroscience or a related field with a strong publication record.
• Excellent knowledge of fMRI research methodologies, experimental design, and data analysis (using AFNI, FSL, SPM, Python, MATLAB, or other software tools).
• Proven leadership abilities with experience in managing research projects, teams, and collaborations.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
• Proficiency in project management, including research design, resource allocation, and timeline management.
• Experience in mentoring and guiding junior researchers, fostering their professional development.
• An innovative and creative mindset, with a track record of contributing to scientific discoveries and advancements.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in securing external research funding.
• Experience in developing and managing research cores or facilities.
• Active participation and leadership in professional organizations and societies.
• Significant technical training and expertise in computer science or mathematics.
