Job Description

Research Scientist – Chemical Proteomics

The Ideal Candidate:

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Scientist to join our team, focusing on target identification by chemical proteomics. The Research Scientist will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of potential cancer drug targets identified through fragment-based drug discovery screens and chemical proteomics. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to translational research and the development of novel therapies for cancer treatment.

Responsibilities:

  • Identification of Drug Targets:
    • Utilize cell biology techniques to assess the impact of different compound analogues on cancer cell behavior, proliferation or survival.
    • Design and execute click-chemistry facilitated chemical proteomics experiments to identify target proteins of compounds selected from fragment-based drug discovery screens.
    • Process samples for mass spectrometry-based proteomics analysis.
    • Visualize proteins by fluorescence imaging and Western blot analysis.
  • Experimental Design and Optimization:
    • Collaborate with medicinal chemists to design and implement linker strategies tailored to specific screening hits.
    • Develop and optimize protocols for chemical proteomics experiments in collaboration with core staff.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation:
    • Analyze and interpret proteomics data to identify and prioritize drug targets.
    • Collaborate with bioinformaticians to integrate proteomics results with other data sets for a comprehensive analysis.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including proteomics, medicinal chemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and preclinical development.
    • The candidate will work closely within the team to facilitate downstream processing for genetic validation experiments.
    • Present findings at internal meetings, conferences, and contribute to publications.
  • Cell Line and Model Maintenance:
    • Maintain cancer cell lines for compound prioritization and chemical proteomics experiments.
  • Instrumentation and Technology:
    • Operate and maintain cutting-edge laboratory equipment and technologies related to affinity enrichment, sample processing and protein visualization.
    • Stay abreast of advancements in the field and recommend the integration of new technologies .

  • Credentials and Qualifications:

    • Minimum of three (3) years postdoctoral fellow or post PhD science experience in Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field is required.
    • Proven expertise in proteomics and affinity purification, particularly in the context of cancer biology.
    • Strong biochemistry skills, as well as mass spectrometry data analysis.
    • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit their online application, additionally include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references to [email protected] and [email protected].  Please include "Research Scientist – Chemical Proteomics" in the subject line.
