What Your Job Will Be Like:
The Enabling Capabilities Group is seeking a well-qualified and enthusiastic leader to manage the Product Transition Department, 05478. This manager will have a critical role in meeting an urgent national need for hypersonic weapon system development by fostering the continuing transfer of Sandia design knowledge and system integration expertise to industry partners. The selected applicant will be responsible for maintaining a team of technical staff and contractors to support this effort. The department is currently responsible for the continuing maturation of knowledge transfer plans; assembly, transfer, and change control of technical design data; coordination with industry partners; addressing the classification issues associated with data transfer to industry; supporting the instantiation of digital national-team common repositories; management of a diverse supply chain spanning internal and external Sandia partner organizations; managing contracted vendors; and close interaction with government sponsors.
Representing Sandia through substantive engagement with DoD customers and industry partners will be necessary to help build and maintain Sandia’s national role as the source of game-changing technology.
On any given day, one may be called on to:
- Collaborate with national team partners in a fast-paced environment to ensure Sandia’s Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) design information is flowing properly.
- Maintain Sandia’s Product Transition competency and look for additional opportunities to employ our expertise.
- Promote the implementation of national-team common digital repositories.
- Organize the Sandia Product Transition team to efficiently transfer design information to the national team.
- Manage staffing assignments and ensure adequate resources are available for staff to support programmatic needs.
- Maintain the Product Transition department by coordinating employee recruitment, selection, training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, recognition, and disciplinary actions.
- Lead and be dynamically involved in the career development of department staff and take accountability for the quality of work produced by the team.
- Properly manage the Product Transition program’s budget, performance, and schedule while delivering results.
- Work closely with other center 05400 managers.
The selected candidate must have the ability to accommodate moderate travel requirements. Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work on-site.
Salary Range:
$149,700 - $254,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a relevant STEM field, plus 8 years of technical experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in collaborating effectively with external engineering organizations.
- Experience with flight testing.
- Prior experience with interpreting program classification guidance and making classification determinations.
- Minimum of two years of demonstrated leadership experience.
- Active DOE L-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Master’s or PhD in relevant STEM field.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary teams from across the laboratories.
- Experience in building, sustaining, and improving highly functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to identify gaps or deficiencies within a process and implement improvements.
- Demonstrated history with product delivery in a timely, cost-effective, and high-quality manner.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills with a history of developing and maintaining trusting relationships among subordinates, peers, and leadership.
- Direct experience working with the DoD and other federal agencies.
- Fundamental knowledge of complex system design, development, and integration.
- Knowledge of the Conventional Prompt Strike program; associated technologies and systems; program sponsors and stakeholders; and key interfaces.
- Experience with bombs, projectiles, rocket systems, and ballistic & maneuvering reentry vehicles.
- Demonstrated capabilities in program development, Sandia’s budgetary process, resource loaded schedules, etc. This includes developing new related business opportunities.
- Effective skills in leadership, management of personnel, time management, and organization.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to tailor to all levels of leadership and national team audiences
- Experience with Sandia’s Work, Planning, and Control (WP&C) process.

The Integrated Military Systems (IMS) Center 05400 develops pathfinder technologies that provide the United States an advantage in missile engagements and other military encounters. IMS develops and tests fully integrated flight systems for strike and missile defense missions, as well as revolutionary technologies in directed energy; military systems analytics; computerized target characterization and geolocation; and autonomy. IMS leverages its decades-long experience base, threat and intelligence insight, science-based systems engineering and analysis, advanced technologies, and rapid prototyping to deliver innovative, high-quality products to its customers.

Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
