Position Summary

City of Hope is seeking a dedicated and experienced Outpatient Medical and Surgical Oncology Nurse, with an emphasis on Gastrointestinal (GI). The successful candidate will deliver exceptional patient care, education, and support to patients undergoing GI oncology treatments and procedures in an outpatient setting. This role requires a strong background in oncology nursing, excellent communication skills, and a passion for patient-centered care. This opportunity is for full-time, 8-hour shifts (5 shifts per week), and is designated for the day shift (8/8:30am start time). The clinic is open Monday-Friday, closed weekends and holidays.

As a successful candidate, you will:

Patient Care

  • Conduct thorough pre-treatment assessments, including obtaining comprehensive patient histories.
  • Prepare and educate patients for GI oncology treatments, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and surgical procedures.
  • Administer and monitor treatments, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Assist in minor GI-related surgical procedures and provide postoperative care.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs, manage symptoms, and provide pain management.
  • Respond to patient emergencies and implement appropriate interventions.

Patient Education

  • Educate patients and their families about GI cancers, treatment options, and side effect management.
  • Provide detailed instructions on post-treatment care, including dietary and lifestyle modifications.
  • Ensure patients understand their medication regimens and follow-up care plans.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with oncologists, surgeons, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure seamless care coordination.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and tumor boards.

Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, including assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory documentation requirements.
  • Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems proficiently to document patient care activities.
Your qualifications should include:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in Nursing is required
  • Current California RN license
  • Minimum of three (3) years related experience
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR Card
  • Prior Charge Nurse experience, preferred

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $57.55 - $83.45 / hour
