What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a Strategy Specialist to join the team! This candidate will develop, maintain, and continuously improve programs, methods, and tools for collecting security and other operations-related data, data analysis and trending, and risk analysis and management. They will develop and publish S&S presentations/reports, which are provided to all levels of Sandia leadership and external oversight. They will facilitate efforts among interdisciplinary subject matter experts across the S&S Programs, laboratories, external/internal collaborators, and management. On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Acts as primary point of contact/facilitator for organization management reviews.
  • Support Center Leadership with various tasks & activities.
  • Demonstrate independence in engaging with subject matter experts (SMEs) and corporate sponsored programs and efforts to appropriately support the interests of S&S Program.
  • Lead technical reviews, with the assistance of specialists where needed, using appropriate tools such as causal analysis, failure modes, cause and effect, and Human Performance Improvement.
  • Compile and analyze data from incidents, observations, near misses, and other sources to identify causes, trends, and relationships to identify corrective actions.
  • Communicate areas of risk and recommend corresponding methods of mitigation to center management, scoping, and scheduling.
  • Independently determine areas of focus, based upon risk assessment of center activities.
  • Develop methods that integrate security performance into the goals, management, operations, and productivity of an organization and into systems, processes, operations, or their components.
  • Develop and manage performance metrics and conduct data analysis to evaluate the success of end-to-end processes and quality improvement activities.
  • Participate in developing performance measures and targets and developing tools and methods to track and report performance against targets.
  • Provide quality improvement advice and support regarding S&S programs and operations to management.
  • Influence consensus and facilitate the resolution of issues as appropriate.
  • Use project management and Lean Six Sigma tools to analyze a variety of problems and to improve processes.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$70,200 - $135,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, Information Security/Assurance, Criminology, Public Administration, Psychology, or other relevant discipline; or equivalent ( AS + 4 or no degree + 8).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience with or substantial knowledge of planning strategically for organizations.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking skills to synthesize disparate detailed data into useful information, such as developing coherent documentation for reports and presentations.

About Our Team:

The Strategy & Program Operations Department is part of Sandia's Safeguard & Security (S&S) Center, whose primary function is the protection and support of Sandia's mission, information, resources, and people. We strive to develop strategic partnerships and provide effective tools and resources to fully integrate security into every aspect of the work performed at Sandia. The Strategy & Operations Department is responsible for leading efforts in the development, implementation, and successful execution of a diverse portfolio of S&S-related initiatives involving strategy and operations. The department is responsible for program operations such as strategic planning, risk management, program communications, performance monitoring, and management review. Additionally, the department is responsible for leading S&S quality initiatives and for applying quality standards across the S&S program to ensure effective, efficient, and quality processes are executed. A significant amount of activities within the department involve leading or supporting executive-level briefings and projects.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
