Job Description Summary:The Administrative Assistant is a key member for the George Washington University Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) and the GW Health and Medicine Development team, representing the Schools of Medicine (SMHS), Nursing (SON) and Public Health (SPH). Our goal is to advance GWs mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.
DAR is responsible for leading the university’s fundraising and alumni engagement efforts. This position is an integral component to achieving aspiration fundraising goals and will support development activities for the Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences, Nursing and Public Health.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Constituent Engagement and Development for Health and Medicine, the Administrative Assistant provides administrative and programmatic support, responsibilities include:
Provide programmatic administrative support to the Health and Medicine DAR team on various development and constituent engagement activities including day-to-day operations.
Serves as a main point of contact for calls and emails from alumni, donors, and grateful patients and handles inquiries and requests.
Create and edit various communications, including event announcements and invitations, briefing materials, letters, and memos.
Coordinate schedules and maintain team calendar(s), prepare meeting agendas, take notes, and track follow-up
Assist with record keeping, maintaining data integrity, and pulling audience lists from the university database
Assists in coordinating and executing event logistics as necessary
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Interest in philanthropy, fundraising, alumni relations and/or event planning.
Prior experience supporting a development office within a university setting, strongly preferred.
The position requires a high level of judgment, the utmost attention to detail, customer service, organization, and ability to multitask and prioritize. The position also maintains a high level of confidentiality.
Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to utilize project management tools and processes.
Demonstrated experience in tracking projects with multiple deliverables and variable deadlines.
High-level competency of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) and Google Suite (Gmail, Google Drive, etc.). Database experience and a willingness to learn new technologies preferred.
Ability to work with a high degree of independence, and learn information quickly and accurately.
