Job Description
Job Summary:The Huynh lab (https://huynhlab.labs.wisc.edu/) is a multi-disciplinary research group that studies bacterial pathogenesis, antibiotic resistance, and antimicrobial discovery. We are seeking a highly motivated research specialist who will lead a project to understand bacterial pathogenesis in the gastrointestinal tract, including intrinsic colonization mechanisms and interactions with the microbiota. The position also involves occasional support work to other projects in the lab and lab management duties such as tracking inventory and ordering supplies.
This is an excellent opportunity for you to learn different techniques in bacterial genetics, infection, and omics techniques. You will be an active lab member and have ample opportunities to present your work at different scientific focus groups on campus. Past employees in this position are first or co-authors on our publications and have gone on to prestigious graduate programs. There is a strong potential for the projects in this position to develop into a PhD graduate program for the interested applicant.

Responsibilities:
Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.
60% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
15% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
10% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
5% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
5% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
5% Performs literature reviews and writes reports

Education:
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or related field
Qualifications:
*Previous research experience is required.
*Strong background in molecular biology, microbiology, and/or biochemistry preferred.
*Prior experience with bacterial genetics and/or protein chemistry is preferred.
*Experience with animals and tissue culture preferred.
