Job Description

The Director, Principal Enterprise Architect - GCS, Vaccines is responsible for directly overseeing and organizing Pfizer initiatives through a business aligned vertical, functionally aligned horizontal or as an expert in platform strategy. As an individual contributor, your primary impact is through your direct work. You are a widely recognized expert in your technical domain able to articulate clearly to a deep technical level and you are comfortable understanding the business direction with input from business leadership.

 

The incumbent in this role leads the enterprise-wide Architecture and platform strategy supporting Pfizer Digital.  This position provides leadership to business stakeholders, Pfizer Digital client partners, product owners and solution engineers to help them adapt and adopt Pfizer’s Digital solutions and platforms. This position is accountable for technology selection and architecture, finding the most effective ways for technology to support Pfizer’s business objectives in a given domain, assisting the Digital Creation Centers and Product group in advancing Pfizer’s digital strategy.

 

This position will be directly responsible for identifying gaps in our strategic solutions and platforms, aiding in onboarding, support, documentation, developer experience, and other elements of great platforms and products.  The incumbent will be responsible for gaining buy-in from the stakeholders responsible for the platforms and help them navigate challenges to achieve excellence.

 

This role is part of the Pfizer Digital Enterprise Architecture organization, which leads technology selection and the strategic efforts in creating an enterprise architecture and master plan that ties together our experiences, data, workflows, capabilities, applications, integration, and back-end services in a cohesive and integrated way.  Specifically, the incumbent will report to the [VP/Sr. Director Enterprise Architecture Role].

 

Key accountabilities:

  • Deliver Enterprise Architecture services including creation of detailed Enterprise Architecture blueprints (to include Business Capability maps, maturity assessments, roadmaps and investment prioritization recommendations), new technology assessments, existing technology rationalization plans, strategic foresight services and platform adoption plans.
  • Creates and publishes architecture artifacts supporting the services mentioned above.
  • Evangelizes reuse of solutions, platforms and architectural patterns horizontally across the enterprise and influences stakeholders to align to Enterprise Architecture strategy and vision, aligned with overall Pfizer business objectives.
  • Works on a variety of strategic initiatives within area of remit, leading complex projects within a business unit – providing technical and strategic context. Constantly shapes and influences initiatives and platforms to achieve measurable value along all dimensions possible – overall total cost reduction, speed to value, reduced complexity and risk, improved security and protection of Pfizer data and assets.
  • Advise Senior leadership on both technical constraints and the business constraints – telling the common narrative of how those things interact with one another.
  • Be the trusted voice for the enterprise as it relates to technical architecture, building value metrics into the foundations of every initiative and documenting the success stories and measurable value that results from working with Enterprise Architecture.
  • Consistently demonstrates excellent communication skills and can work effectively in a cross-functional and matrixed organization. Ensures accurate and timely communication of the project milestones and creates a high-functioning team environment.
  • Mentor more junior colleagues and provide them with guidance and growth opportunities.

 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Service Delivery:

  • Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers; gets first-hand customer information and uses it for improvements in products and services; acts with customers in mind; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect.
  • Directs and proposes Enterprise Architecture fit for new and existing technical components.
  • Manages relationships with other Digital and Technology lines that are required for successful product deployment and operational activities.

  • Uses innovative business thinking to challenge the status quo and drive identification, quantification and proposal of business solutions.
  • Leads proactive initiatives to drive Enterprise Architecture Strategy directly or at the direction of EA Leadership
  • Challenges the status-quo, understands the constraints of a problem, and offers innovative alternatives that are simpler, more secure, and provide more business value.

Architecture:

  • Accountable for understanding business drivers and business capabilities (future and current state) and determine corresponding enterprise system designs and change requirements to drive the targeted business outcomes.
  • Accountable for the formulation of solution and/or platform implementation approach, building consensus on approach, and providing technical execution oversight of such solutions.
  • Accountable for facilitating strategic decisions for existing technologies, the decision to build or seek enhancement of new platforms/solutions, retire existing platforms/solutions.  Builds consensus on those approaches with business and technology stakeholders.
  • Knowledgeable about regulatory constraints when designing services in the healthcare industry (GxP, HIPAA, Sunshine Act, security audits & certifications, business associates agreements, etc.); especially as it relates to the handling of patient data.
  • Influences management/senior staff decisions and serves as a company expert in solving highly complex problems with a focus on fit and purpose with business objectives. Works closely with the other Enterprise Architects to ensure alignment. Understands modern cloud architecture best practices and is well-versed in Amazon Web Services-based architecture.
  • Influences management/senior staff decisions via focused innovation engineering exercises and measurable, proof-based experimentation.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited institution
  • 10+ years of demonstrated, relevant experience in launching, building and supporting global enterprise solutions & platforms, including cloud-native solutions (i.e.: Amazon, Google, Microsoft Azure), SaaS and PaaS, and demonstrated experience with one or more Pfizer core platforms (Adobe AEM, Salesforce, SAP, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and evidence of enabling teamwork in a matrix environment, leading and directing one or more project teams.
  • Strong diplomacy skills; able to navigate difficult political environments and proven ability to build coalitions and develop strong partnerships across functions
  • Demonstrated ability to translate marketing material into actionable and understandable truth.
  • An “execution mindset” focused on getting things done quickly and simply.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of business domain expertise in one more domain like research /product development /Mfg. operations/ Commercial areas in Life sciences or related industry
  • Experience in working with teams using Agile frameworks in a scaled environment
  • Relevant cloud and/or architect certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure, Salesforce.com, SAP, Service now, SAFe for Architects,

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $149,200.00 to $248,600.00.* In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
