Job SummaryThe Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a Programmer / Analyst to work closely with principal investigators and project managers to provide programming and data management support. Responsibilities include developing SAS programs to create analytic datasets, validate data quality, perform statistical analyses, and prepare results for manuscripts, presentations, and reports. Additionally, the programmer will develop and manage Microsoft Access and REDCap databases and oversee data entry by other staff. The studies and data will include large relational databases with cross-sectional but primarily repeated measures or time to event analyses that require a knowledge of time-varying causal inference modeling. The position requires the ability to develop an in-depth understanding of our data and data structures as well as the ability to translate specifications into statistical software programming logic. The candidate must understand both database management and research complexities and has the ability to apply problem-solving techniques utilizing existing and emerging scientific knowledge.

Responsibilities*
This position involves a wide range of tasks including data management, programming, and statistical analyses. The main role would be as data programmer working closely with researchers to understand the projects, specifications, and prepare analytical cohorts. A variety of data sources will be used for various projects. Specifically, the position includes the following responsibilities:
Data programming
Develops and implements complex program designs using appropriate tools and software
Extracts, queries, and edits information in relational databases
Documents all aspects of data management, such as database structure and related data cleaning procedures, and documents all statistical analyses performed
Modifies and actualizes existing program and debugs errors in a systematic manner
Develops programming and systems analysis and documentation standards
Provides technical advice and support on difficult data analyses and programming problems requiring advanced techniques
In collaboration with project managers, develops, implements and/or maintains an orientation and training program related to data entry and data management for all study staff.
In collaboration with researchers and project managers, develops, maintains, oversees, and improves databases and REDCap surveys for research projects
Functions as a resource for all study issues related to data entry, coding, quality and management. Identifies problems and develops solutions
Responds promptly to study staff to solve issues/questions about data management, automated scheduling processes, and other database procedures
Statistical analysis
Develops and drafts project specific analysis plans
Independently conducts appropriate data analyses
Assists researchers with writing and preparing tables/figures for analyses, reports, scientific papers, grants and presentations
Works with collaborators to define scientific questions, formulate models and methods, and apply appropriate statistical methods and advise on presentation of results
Reviews and evaluates feasibility studies and prepare recommendations based on in-depth knowledge of problem and the capabilities of potential approaches, from a data perspective
Engage with researchers
Participates as a team member in discussions on analysis and improvement of data collection, quality of data analyses, programming and documentation
Participates in projects and team meetings
Required Qualifications*
Master?s degree in computer science, statistics, biostatistics, or related field
Five or more years of experience using software for database management and statistical analysis
Strong communication and documentation skills for describing issues with data and potential remedies
Strong statistical knowledge
Experience with survival and repeated measures modeling.
Database management experience and/or training or equivalent training and experience, preferably with health-related data.
Previous experience in clinical or epidemiologic research is required.
Flexibility and ability to work independently and collaboratively with multiple researchers
Ability to prioritize, organize, and efficiently work on multiple projects at the same time
Ability to be consistently detail-oriented
Desired Qualifications*
Ability to generate project specific reports and journal ready output
Familiarity with multiple statistical software (R, SAS, Stata)
Flexible and able to productively interact with a diverse research team including investigators, project managers, coordinators, and research staff to accomplish project goals.
Highly organized, with decision-making skills, initiative, and ability to work as part of a growing data management team.
Must possess a great deal of integrity to maintain confidentiality of all research data. Must demonstrate accuracy in maintaining data.
Knowledge of computerized data entry programs such as Microsoft Access and REDCap.
